Using an N54 variant is awesome, but I wonder how they have addressed the HPFP issue - or how they have ignored it.

Directly from Scott26's post on another topic.
"The best way to describe the engine of the 1M is a "Hybrid" but in the original form of Hybrid, nothing to do with "alternatives", but it is not a straightforward transplant."
So the M division will continue to do their work do make it a different engine.
At least they better, if they want my money.....

Also From Scott26:

"The initial engine proposal was the N55 but they were having issues that cannot be solved within the time window."

"Valvetronic was the main cause of the time delay"

...

so he was originally wrong

Exactly what I noted.

I'm not technical so what does powertrain mean?

Engine AND transmission?

Anyway it could be an SMG? Rather than a straightforward manual?

Did someone say M3 6sp M/T?

Look at where the quotation marks begin and end. I said engine, not Scott26.......

N54 has shown to be more tuner-friendly, so I think that's a good thing.

I wonder if they employ some additional anti-tuner protection means ? However, I think overboost is about enough to deter some tuners, the current piggyback tuners don't seem to have products out for the overboost-enabled 335is. But the flash tuners will simply wipe the overboost-enabled software and just flash their own.

The Cooper S has had overboost since 2007. Don't they have tunes for them?
I don't know but I think they do.

I don't know but I think they do.
They do, but very limited success until fairly recently. Only two stateside companies are successfully tuning them, one uses Dimsport from Italy, the other uses a Cobb tuning developed "accessport" (this one just came out to the public during the past couple of weeks)

The problem with the MINI is the limited aftermarket demand, so return of money invested in aftermarket development is hard. BMW does not have that problem, so I don't think it will take too long to work out the overboost.

Ask the guys at burger and vishnu how their tuning efforts with the turbo MINI went...

Vishnu says no problem. Burger is working on it.

Was there ever an explanation as to why the 1M is busing the N54 as opposed to the N55? Just makes me wonder why the supposedly better N55 was passed up in favor of the N54.

M had trouble with the valvetronic bits on the N55 and gave up

Is there a write up on this? That is rather shocking IMHO. And it also concerns me that I made a poor investment and should expect lots of headaches with my N55 and 135i in the near future.

Don't worry about your N55. BMW still has big plans for it. They just couldn't get it ready fast enough for the 1M.

The N55 will be the basis for the F30 M3, so put your worries to rest.

Thet was kinda my line of thinking. I was actually thinking that they started the 1M before the introduction of the N55 into the 135i, and the M Division just figured having time already invested with the paring of the 1M and the N54 they decided to stick with it. Thanks for the info guys.
