If you disconnect the battery and lose one touch up/down and or the positive seal function, you need to reset the windows.

This procedure will reset the windows limits so that when you open the door the window will drop the 1/4 inch.

- Sit in the car, and put the key in position 1, so you have power to the windows.

- Push and hold down the window switch, and keep it held down for 5 seconds after the window is all the way down. This re-sets the memory, telling the motor, in effect, “Remember where we are now? ”

- Roll window back up, and release switch.

- Open door. Marvel at the downward motion of the window. Repeat on other side, if needed.
Would this procedure work in the following scenario where the window won't close, but open's about half-way after reaching the top? It is like it doesn't know where the top position is. You can slowly inch the window back up again, but if you do it too quickly, it will retract to the bottom again.

Amazing!

Thank you for this post! I freaked when my windows didn't do this anymore after disconnecting the battery. Now it's all good.

Ive tried reseting the limits but it wont take. My issue may be different though, my windows will only go up and down about an inch at a time. Rear windows work fine but both front windows do exactly the same thing and will only move in 1 inch increments.

Any ideas?

Issue:

Window will not go up all the way up after opening it all the way down

Solution:

"- Sit in the car, and put the key in position 1, so you have power to the windows."

"- Push, extra click down hold in my case, and hold down the window switch, and keep it held down for 5 seconds after the window is all the way down. This re-sets the memory, telling the motor, in effect, “Remember where we are now? ”

"- Roll window back up, and release switch."

THANK YOU!!

I know this is an old thread, but I'm having issue too with a 135i Windows.

Driver side, replaced regulator, after taking off motor wire was hanging out of the spool.

Now the window master control switch, works the mirror fine but windows both Drivers side and Passengers side is an issue. Passenger side window only goes up an down at an inch or 2 at a time.

Drivers side Window works the same way when it works, sometimes though when hitting the toggle switch up or down it doesn't do anything? Like I said before switch works the mirrors fine?

So is my issue the motor on that window getting ready to go or is it a failing master control window switch on the drivers side?

This is a 2008 135i. Coupe

Any help will be appreciated.

It's for people with disabilities, for easier IN/OUT.

I have almost the same issue... I have changed window lifting motor and harness, and after job, window does not go down 1/4 inch. It looks like it tries to go down, cuz window moves a little, but not 1/4 inch... And i have lost seal on this window as well, when i drive about 70mph, lots of air noise comes inside the cabin...

I have reseted window position as mentioned in this topic, did not help.

Any ideas ?
