PRICE?!?!?! well, its amazing the BMW is offering this, regardless of the price. Good move on their part to keep the 1 competitive.

If it was to keep the 1 competitive it would be free and all future cars would come with the new software. It's just another way for them to make money.

20hp at the engine is nothing. If it was 20whp that would be a slightly different story.

Ah I see, I thought this was going to be implemented on future 135i and available for those already sold...

Well, on the positive side, you keep your warrenty :-)

According to BMW, the 0-62 time drops by 0.2 sec which is negligible, but the 80-120 km/h (50-75 mph) time drops by 0.5 sec which is significant. So at speed the "improved" car should put an easy 2 lengths on the "regular" car.

I bet a JB+ or SSTT on top of this will make for an excellent combination.

That being said, if the improved cooling comes courtesy of a different water pump and/or fan, the installed cost will be much greater than $1000 - think $2000. (Just updating the SW on the car takes 5 hours labor or so).

Perhaps what this tells us is that for long term reliability, chipped cars need a better cooling system.

Hmmm, interesting point...but it will mainly only improve straight line performance for the 135i.

So what do you think they'll offer for enhancing the handling/steering/traction etc. side of things, as even with this power increase a 135i will still not match up to a 370Z on any track or road twisties...no idea yet how good or not a Hyundai Genesis coupe is ??

Then again, imagine any enhancements to a 370Z will put it further ahead once again...

They already offer that - the BMW Performance Suspension. Add M3 control arms, sways etc and you'll be set.

And any set of max perf summers on LTW wheels will improve the traction end.

Wow, that's what suffices for a 'performance turbo upgrade'?

And yes, I'll bet it's $800+ installed.

So, I think I'll be doing my own mods once warranty runs out.

This car should be modified by BMW to 350+ hp for $1000. Then we've got a deal.
(include new down pipes, software, water cooling - can be done; software is essentially zero cost for them).

Are they trying to build an enthusiast base with the 1 series? So far, I'm not convinced.
if it's only around 800 it will be very reasonable for a BMW product, I've been hearing rumors of 2k plus! I really wish they would release the pricing because if it's around 1000 then I'll get the performance exhaust and go the BMW route, if it's 2k then I'll just say F**K it and go elsewhere

I couldn't feel a 30whp difference.

You can definitely fell 30whp. That's what you get with a flash on a 1.8t Gti.

Side not, I have a 2.3 stroker as well.

BMW may be greedy but not stupid. The price will be less than Dinan but not under $1,000. My guess is $1,250.

If it comes with some hardware, its not such a bad deal; it its a pure software tune, worst value ever.

True depending on the cost but the cooling hardware should have been on the car originally as it already runs hot (oil temp 250-260º) on the highway in the summer months w/AC on. Don't know what the coolant temp runs but it must be pretty toasty also.

If it's under $500, then that's reasonable. But I have a feeling it'll be well over a thousand.
