BMW Performance Turbo Upgrade - It's Official!

http://www.bimmerfile.com/2009/02/13...4-engine-tune/

It has been made official: BMW Performance will be offering a performance upgrade for the N54 twin turbo six! The engine software and components that gave the new 740i an increase in horsepower and torque will essentially now be available as a dealer installed option for 135i and 335i models.

The BMW Performance Power Kit consists of both software and hardware components including additional water cooling. The kit will be installed and covered under warranty by BMW. In European terms this gives the engine 20 more horsepower (326 from 306) and 50 more Newton meters (450 from 400). In the US that should figure to somewhere in the 321 hp and 336 ft/lbs neighborhood. The performance increase is noted as .2 of a second from a standstill to .5 seconds faster in the passing range.

Official US information has not been released but we have heard for some months that this was in the works and that we could expect something at dealers in April. We will update you as we hear more so as always stay tuned!

This is great.

#1 stacking
I wonder how it will stack with SSTT or JB3 your thoughts??

#2 price
It shouldnt be more than 200 bucks IMO since this is something that should have been included in all 135i sports pkg. Realistically I have a feeling this is going to be ridiculously priced.

Bet it would stack better becuase of the better water cooling they will add. So, that should be good news.

That would be AMAZING if they tossed it in with the sport pack. I would be so happy.

IMO they will over charge for it. I bet it will be more like 800 to a grand. Which is absurd.

I wonder what the improved water cooling will be... As far as gaining 20 hp, that is a little pathetic compared to the jb3; but it does come with a warranty

You are waiting for ED? Relax, it will eventually come when you least expect it, but there are many options that your MD can provide!

They're doing ED on the 1's at the end of 2009? I wouldnt buy this car without the BMW turbo tune now. I think a lot of people will be pleasantly suprised. They're doing this to keep the 1/3 competive. I mean the 3 is just half way through its wife cycle.

Does it have a release date yet? I would read it, but I don't like reading speculative articles that just get my hopes up.

It hasnt been confirmed for the U.S. yet but it seems to be a no-brainer.

Until this car comes with an ///M badge, we'll never see an LSD

Depends on the price of course...

On a side note, everyone should send a thank you note to Nissan (for the 370Z) and to Hyundai (for the Genesis Coupe), because in my opinion those cars definately provided some additional motivation to bump the 135i number up.

20 more horsepower on top of 300?

Wow, that's what suffices for a 'performance turbo upgrade'?

And yes, I'll bet it's $800+ installed.

So, I think I'll be doing my own mods once warranty runs out.

This car should be modified by BMW to 350+ hp for $1000. Then we've got a deal.
(include new down pipes, software, water cooling - can be done; software is essentially zero cost for them).

Are they trying to build an enthusiast base with the 1 series? So far, I'm not convinced.
