PE and N55 Mids Installed
Just finished installing PE axle back and N55 mids on my N54. Took my friend and I 3.5 hrs. We had to make one run to the store for tools. Broke 2 star bits and stripped one star bolt. The four star bolts on the cross plate (over the mids) are a pita. I even hit it with some of that loosener stuff. Everything else, including the hangers were pretty easy. Finished just as the sun went down so no after pics yet. We had the car on jack stands. Not a lot of room but very doable for those thinking about DIY.

I'll get a sound clip up tomorrow. I would rate stock at 2, current setup a 5 and my Ducati with aftermarket exhaust as 8 out of ten. Not much noise increase when cruising but when you get on the gas its really nice. Loud but not annoying loud. No cabin drone as others have said with the y pipe (no resonator). I Paid $600 for both n55 mids and PE axle back. Both used from this forum.

Two questions:
1) The rubber hose that I pulled off the stock exhaust. I didn't see anyplace to plug in to the PE. So I just tucked it away under the heatshield. Is that what people did. 2) On both the PE and stock exhaust, there is a black rubber pipe about 3" in diameter and 2" long sticking out of the back of the exhaust. Nothing is connected to it. What does it do? |

The rubber hose is the vacuum line for the stock exhaust valve. I just stuck a plug in it and zip ties it away.
The rubber pipe is the harmonic balance (called something like that). It is there to get rid of drone/vibration. I installed mine about 1500 miles ago. It just keeps sounding better and better as I put more miles on it...

Here are side by side pics. (Left) stock (Right) PE. Definitely planning to get a CF diffuser.
Video Clip #1. PE w/ N55 mids on N54. Cold start and idle. Video Clip #2. 3k-6k revs with engine warmed up. Notice the "farting" sound after I let go of the gas. Is this common? |

Sounds great! Have you got any drive-by or launch videos?
The fart sound is normal, every PE does it, it's just exhaust gas resonating out of the tips when the revs drop. Something to do with vacuum or something, no idea but normal . |

Just one question... since you are running the N55 mid pipes... did you cut off the mid pipe resonator and install the PE y-pipe? Btw... everyone says once you put a few thousand miles on the exhaust it sounds even better!
