Bad things/drawbacks for the 1 Series?
We've all been focusing on the good things about this car but I'm just curious as to the things you don't like about the 1 series. Current owner's input would be excellent! So far I've come up with:

You've got the turn signal thing wrong. They're on a relay now. You just push down or up once, no need to hold. I personally don't know what was wrong this the old method that worked on a cam mechanism.

To expand on something you've already pointed out, I think RFTs are a mistake.
1. BMW was so desperate to get 50/50 balance, they put a weight in the rear of the car. A spare tire would have eliminated the need for a weight. 2. Unsprung weight would have been less. 3. Total weight would have been less. 4. Lateral grip on both smooth and bumpy surfaces would have been improved. 5. Owners wouldn't be locked into $300 tires. So if I get stuck in the middle of Kansas, where am I gonna get a rear RFT that fits... or any tire that fits? It's just stupid. It should have been an option for people who are afraid to change a tire. It's moronic for anyone who has to travel outside of metropolitan areas. Is providing a spare that would fit the front and back techically impossible or something? Offset problems or something? |

Totally agree. I wonder how much work would be involved in removing those amber corners and replacing the turn signal bulb with an amber one. I would have removed the amber corners on my Silverado, but I didn't really feel comfortable with baking my headlights to loosen the adhesive so the corners could be taken out.

What turned me away ultimately was the turbo engine...reliability outside of the warranty is just one big unknown. If the engine they'd chosen was along the lines of the M3, ie big and N/A, I would buying the car with no hesitation and full intentions of driving it 20 years +.
I also think it was a mistake on BMW's part to alter the exterior details of the 128 and create a noticably uglier car than the 135. Sure it makes me want the 135 that much more when comparing the two, but it also makes me want the 128 less if it were the only car of the two I was considering. |

2. The only dislike that I have, at this point, is the staggered tire setup. With non-staggered you would be able to rotate the tires properly and increase tire life.

Excellent thread! Good to be totally honest. No car is perfect, although some come closer than others!
1. No genuine fold down rear armrest. 2. Cupholders - a. Front cupholder (w/ iDrive) located under armrest. b. Mickey Mouse add-on front cupholder on right side of center console. c. No rear passenger cupholder. 3. Rear seat legroom 4. No choice for audible feedback when locking car. (There is a thread devoted to this topic) 5. Sport seats too narrow for many... would benefit from a width adjustment to accomodate larger proportions. 6. No spare tire. 7. No fog lights on 135i (due to oil cooler location). 8. No storage pocket on backside of front seats for rear passengers. 9. No additional small grab handles on doors (existing handles are too forward for easy use). 10. Of course, iDrive user interface could be simplfied and more user friendly. 11. Convertible's rear window is a bit too small. That said... I absolutely LOVE my 135i !!!!... My Porsche is now parked for a while!

Quite a few 335i (N54 engine) owners are experiencing Vanos solenoid failures and camshaft scouring and bearing failures among other random limp modes and MILs...

Coming from a 3-series coupe, I was disappointed with:
1. How cheap the interior looks. It kind of looks empty IMHO. 2. Sedona Red. It looks wonderful in the ads, but it doesn't look the same in person.....at all. That's it for now!

That does seem to be the solution! Nice that there IS one, unlike some other items. Thanks!
