Spotted a brown 135 coupe turning into Riding Road, Hawthorne late yesterday afternoon. Noticed the rear left light wasn't working...

Am sitting at AC now, waiting to collect my 135i, without having had the rear light assembly replaced as arranged. Why? 'Cos they're supposedly not available in Oz and they're on BACKORDER with Germany.
Hmmm... So, now I have to drive around in a vehicle that has a known unroadworthy defect at night? Interesting concept. Wonder what they'll say? Fo you reckon BMW Oz will pay any fines? Simon...

Well, the good news is that the Service Advisor had an attack of the guilts (his words) after he called me and he will speak to BMW Australia tomorrow as (again, his words) it's technically illegal to drive the car as it is. So, we'll see what happens tomorrow. Simon....

Got a phone call from the dealer late this afternoon... BMW Australia have managed to locate a tail light cluster and it will be in Perth on Monday. The SA told me that they weren't very cooperative initially, but when pushed with "So, he's basically driving illegally at night because you can't supply a part? What are you going to do about that?", it seemed to work....

Came back to the car in the carpark today and unlocked it. Guess what only the passengers side rear light lit up (it was the one i had replaced a month ago) its obvious that BMW has a quality problem here. Just hope dealer has one in stock --will find out Monday.

2bob, I don't think they will. I didn't post an update the other day, but the one they 'found' for me was damaged (in transit, on the camel to WA, we think) and the replacement is on backorder again.

You have to start wondering about the quality of the parts being produced. Are they being tendered out to the cheapest producer, who just may happen to be in China or India? I'd hope not but you never know.

Well, I've only done 5000, and the led is dead. Now, there is also a warning light as the brake light is gone too. Hope the dealer has stock, but sound like it is going to be a waste of time when I bring my car to the dealer tomorrow, sigh!

+1 left rear driving light LED strips are out... took it to BMW on Friday, the new cluster is on order to be imported from Germany. They say it will take about 3 weeks. I can't believe so many ppl are having the same problem all of a sudden. I've had my car just under a year now.
Btw, correct me if i'm wrong but I don't think NSW police issue defect notices unless both taillights are out? |
