I'm on H&R coilovers and sitting pretty low. I just mounted EC-7s, 18x8.5, 18x9.5 -- 1er fitment, and am getting rubbing issues coming from the driver side of the car. Seems like the inside part of the wheel well is rubbing against something only when I turn right.

Anyone have the same issue?

Could you take some straight on pics from the front and back?

I'm interested to see the offset. What are your thoughts on the offset and fitment?

We would need more details to understand what/where this is coming from. But if you are having issues on one side of the car then these are the variables worth looking at:

1. Is the fender liner out of place/installed incorrectly? I believe only one side has cooler fines in the liner which could also touch the tire.

2. Is the alignment correct? Caster and other settings could be off on one side.

3. Are the tire sizes correct for the application?

4. Is the suspension interfering with anything?

Hey Eddy,

I'm going to bring my car back to EAS today to get things looked at. Will follow up with you. Thanks for reaching out.

UPDATE:

Got the issue resolved! Turns out the inside face of the wheel was rubbing against the H&R coilovers on turns and relatively hard straight-line breaking where the front of the car dips. EAS fitted 5mm front spacers and no more rubbing. I'm happy.

Also, for those looking to run a wider rear stance, EAS fitted 10mm spacers in the rear, which works perfectly IMO. Very brief rubbing over quick dips, but then again my 135i sits fairly low all around.

Anyone looking for major services or fine-tuning work to be done and is located in Southern California, then I HIGHLY recommend EAS. I have no affiliation with them; I simply appreciate their diligent work and expertise.

suprtran, how low are you?

I am running KW V1 and lowered about an inch.

Not really keen on running spacers.

To be honest, I'm not exactly sure how low I am. If Ihad to guess, I'd say ~1.5-2" front & at least 1.5" rear. Again, just a rough estimate.

The wheel or the tyre was rubbing?
What size and brand of tyres are you running?

If aftermarket coilovers are installed then it's very possible for the wheel/tire to touch the suspension if the lower spring perch is set too low. Lower perches can be low due to a long main spring, the use of a helper/tender spring, or excessive lowering. In the case of the H&R coilovers, I believe they use a longer then ideal spring.

We're glad to hear the 5mm spacer cured your issue. Your offset is effectively ET40 now, which is just on the edge of fitting without fender issues depending on the tire that is used. For others reading this, some meaty tires (like r-compounds) would most likely rub on the fender when spacer'ed out, unless extra negative camber is added.

As you mentioned spacers in the rear can induce rubbing. 255/35/18 is unnecessarily conservative for the rear at the width/offset we spec'ed for the 1 series. A 265 would be meatier and would fill the rear fender more, resulting in no need for a spacer to modify the fitment aesthetically.

Hey David. I got a great deal on a pair of 255s and hence went with those instead. For my next set, I do plan on going with 265s to avoid having to use spacers. Thanks again.

Thanks!

Using my old dunlop star specs 225 and 255. A little bit of a stretch but will go 235 and 265 star specs when they are worn out. Have heaps of room on the inside at the rear but cant see the clearance at the front but will try and get pics.

I had mine mounted last night.
Pictures do not capture how these rims look in person. They look amazing and really fit they curves of the car. I am definitely a happy customer

I definitely agree with Gumball. I'm using the same size tires and will definitely get larger ones at some point.

Now it's time to find suspension stuff

Anyone have any feedback on the offset, specifically the rear?

I am growing a little worried they are too conservative. I should have mine mounted on 225/255 early next week...

I honestly think your going to love the wheels but wish you had larger tires all around.
I'll try to take pics when I get home

But again this is just a personal opinion

I went with 235/40f---255/35r star specs... I ordered them at the same time as the wheels and wanted to be conservative the first go around and make sure everything mounted up fine. (I'm on 100% stock suspension.)

I'm finding the 235's up front are stretching the limits of the stock setup, they are rubbing when I hit compression dips and when putting decent speed through a corner, the shoulder of the inside tire is rubbing against the fender for the briefest moment... Nothing major but something that needs to be corrected for with additional camber. I'm hoping that once I get plates in that I will have plenty of room for 245's, might need a fender roll though.

No issues at all in the rear, I could of easily gone with a 265.

My ultimate goal is a 245/265 setup.
