128i S65 Swap

I’m coming over from the E9X section to the 1 series forum. Got in a unfortunate accident in my E92 M3. I just picked up a 08 128i and I plan on transferring my E92 drivetrain into the 128i.

Didn’t get to do much with all the rain we been getting. Rear subframe is out, decided to go with Turner Motorsport solid mounts and OE bushings.

cerealwars thanks appreciate. Been busy, I managed to get the engine and subframe installed over the long weekend. I decided to go with the E92 dash.

Great progress so far, turns out my throttle actuator got damaged in the accident. Waiting on my rebuild kit.

I see a new project in my future. I always assumed an S65 swap was a total non-starter in CA, but seeing your build gives me hope. I know the general path is the BAR Referee for the 'Blue Tag' so it's recognized as an M3 for smog, but how much of a headache was the emissions integration? Did the Ref give you a hard time about the 128i fuel system or did you have to swap the entire M3 EVAP setup over too?

I swapped the entire M3 evaporator system.

Hey this is an amazing project and would be a real dream for me! Coming from a 128i I now own a Z4M and an E90 M3. After driving many modern ///M platforms I desire more for what you’re building here. Either that or an E46 M3.

Could you summarize all of your accomplishments? How driveable is the car now? Any plans to sell your services as a conversion expert to the enthusiast community?

It hits different, the sound and the way it feels is completely different than any modern BMW. I own a F80 and it’s night and day different between the 2. It is a goal of my to doing custom work in the near future for people. I just need more space, not a public shop more like a invite only.
