How to Determine the Correct Crankshaft Pulley Rotation?
Hey everyone, made a mistake while checking if parts of my shredded belt got into the engine through the crankshaft seal. Took off the crankshaft pulley without making any visual marks on the bolts, pulley and the engine for the previous rotation of the pulley. Fortunately the seal is intact but now I'm wondering what is the process for determining the correct rotation of the pulley and if there is such a thing? How do people aproach this when installing an aftermarket one or replacement?
I have an automatic 135i with an N54 Pictures of crankshaft pulley attached. |

So in this video here (at 22 seconds):
https://www.youtube.com/watch?t=22&v...ature=youtu.be You can see the guy making a mark where the crankshft pulley is rotated relative to the crankshaft. I was just wondering if this is completely neccessary and if there are side effects for putting it in a different way for the 135i. |

Did you know there is a cheap simple solution to protect your engine and prevent it from eating the serpentine belt?

Thanks! I actually got one from eBay (due to it being almost half the price and good reviews). No issues so far, seems to be doing its job without interfereing with the crankshaft pulley.
