DIY - Cupholder
Not a big project but one that will have some functionality. Cupholders are a problem in this car - the two in the console are unusable to hold drinks - one is under the storage compartment and a drink in the the other interferes with shifting (I've usurped that one for a magnetic wireless charger for my phone). In my C5 Corvette, I have a double drink holder called the Travel Buddy that sits on the floor against the tunnel on the passenger side and wedges under the bottom edge of the console plastic for stability. Works great, although it does intrude on the passenger leg room, but livable.
I decided to try to make my own version for Little Red (2011 128i). I ordered (from Amazon) several of the "large cup/bottle" adapters for car cupholders to find the one that was the best size for my preferred travel coffee mug (Yeti). One was just the right size for my mug and will hold most other cups/bottles (perhaps not the oversize insulated water bottles). I used some closed cell foam cut concave on one side and flat on the other, some zip ties, and a piece of semi-rigid black plastic (leftover bottom or side from a folding cloth storage bin), cut the bottom of the plastic to fit the contours of the floor, drilled some holes in the cupholder and this is the result. Pretty stable but will put it to a road test on the way to work tomorrow morning.
