Is a 100% stock car of more value then even lightly modded car?
I'm curious what the group thinks. I have a VO totally stock car that I picked up in Munich and have all the paper work and goodies for. It's at 11,000 miles and I'm curious if modding it would bring the value down.
Please don't blast me, I'm just curious after reading some other posts about modded cars and Canadian cars.

A car like the 1M? Yes. I think it does devalue it. Mods that don't 'change' the car like wheels won't, because they're easy to change. Any engine mods or suspension mods likely hurt the value, IMO.

Mine was bought new by me, has 58k miles, is moderately modded, and is a track toy. It is used as intended. If I sold it (I won't), I would get a little under original MSRP. Not too shabby 9 years and a million smiles later. I could have parked it and babied it and it would be worth 10-20k more, but I would still be 9 years closer to the grave and would have had much less fun.
Its your car. Do what you want!

The question isn't as much about miles or use, it's about mods. And I'm not trying to raise mine by lieing others. Like I said I'm just curious. I've never been one to modify my vehicles. My Jeep Wrangler sure, a lift, bumpers etc. but not my cars.

I modified my 1m, but only with very selective quality parts and no customize (plug and play).
But yes fully stock cars will have more values these days. unless its like akrapovic.. it's probably the only thing that can add some value towards the car.

If it has a good exhaust, I think it adds value. This car needs an after-market exhaust. When I bought mine, it took some time to source an Akrapovic exhaust and it was expensive.....so anyone buying a 1M if it has a good after-market exhaust take that into consideration.

Always depends on the buyer. There are two camps, one that buys strictly OEM material, and the other that does not care. Since these cars are/were modified (other than temporary cosmetic, like a spoiler) quite a bit, the number of OEM cars, and low mile/very low mile OEM cars is low. Based on supply and demand, those who want OEM will then have to pay more.

I will say that the modifications I have done and will be doing are mild and reversible, I won’t be welding to or cutting into the car. I’ll always want to be able to go back to 100% stock. |

In my opinion the two must have mods that I think add value are performance seats and Akrapovic exhaust, they really do make a significant difference to the driving experience of the car and I would pay a premium for a car that had them.

I think I am the only person who doesn't think the akra is good on the 1M. I like doing light mods but prefer to buy stock and then modify because chances are I don't have the same taste as the previous owner. But if I was in the market and the previous owner had full history and the mod I was already going to purchase than its a win-win situation in my book.

And yes, I think for the car the 1M is, it will be more attractive being a stock example. I would also expect some, like me, feel like the mods say something about how the car was treated. Square setup with camber plates and owner says no track kms...... dunno.. |

hard to say really... with rare cars like the 1M, eventually there is a buyer for them. How much they are willing to buy it for is really when you find out what its worth. that being said, I do think OE with little to no miles and kept factory fresh is always going to be worth the most.... BUT you pay for that. By not driving it and basically sinking your money into something you are no enjoying. So unless you buy 2 1Ms.... one to keep stored and the other to drive, you are wasting your money. Go invest in the stock market instead if $$$$$s is what you value. I think what these cars deliver in driving pleasure is the great equalizer in the equation.

My car has the Akra back box with sound kit , n55 mid pipe and standard primary cats which I find adds a welcome bit of bass without adding drone but also not too raspy but understand they are not for everyone. |

I would take a 1M with the size/weight/steering feel and mod it to what you like because you can not mod the above into newer cars. |

I personally bought a car that had 2mods on it, aftermarket downpipe and coilovers. I bought new OEM suspension and catted downpipes even before i took delivery of the car. The modified cars dont seem to fetch the same prices of stock/unmodified cars.
If i had the money to buy another 1M, the only option i would want are the M performance Seats and it must be completely stock! |

I know someone who bought that thing, thinking that it could be returned back to normalcy. In the interest of not embarrassing this person in a public forum, I will not identify him or her.
