Any 17 inch wheel will be needed to clear the front brakes of a 135i. At first I used BMW's euro space saver spare tire. But the very first time I used one... (in the rain) it was quite scarry how much the rear end wiggled around just going straight down the autobahn at 80 to 100 kph. That's when I went with a full size spare - from an e46 330ci. So happy now.

My 135i has 18" wheels with Michelin PSS tires on them. I occasionally head out hiking with a friend in remote places that might be 30 or 40 miles off of paved roads, on well maintained dirt/gravel roads. A couple of these areas are relatively isolated, and getting an irreparable flat tire could be very very bad. I have a set of 17" Blizzaks on wheels that I use as winter tires. Unlike the PSS tires on the stock wheels, the winter set is square (front and rears the same). Could I simply take one of those Blizzaks with me in the car trunk while venturing out to one of these remote places, and use the Blizzak as a temporary spare in the case of a catastrophic flat? Thanks. Last edited by champignon; 06-26-2016 at 09:08 AM.. |

Yes, a 17 inch wheel will fit over the front brake rotors and work well as a spare tire. You might want to buy the BMW jack kit... but carrying one of your winter tire/wheels as a spare is a good idea. Dackel

I also carry the M Mobility kit, although I would have to be in a tough position in order to use it. I used to carry the space saver spare as well (never used), but I sold it to a local list member and just started bringing one of my square winter wheels. Yes, it eats up a bunch of trunk space, but I don't carry much in my 1er. |

Checking Amazon, the part number you gave and the one given in the post above yours, produces the same search result. Thanks to both of you! |

You can also order a mini spare from TireRack.com I also remember some forum members saying the Mitsubishi Galant mini spare fits on a 135i. Just make sure its a 17" wheel. My alloy mini spare(in that link I posted above) was a German only part. The reason is while BMW NA will sell you the alloy wheel, the tire has no DOT rating - so its not allowed to sell it in the USA. But you can order a spare tire "kit" for the old X5 or e60 5er.... and that mini spare tire would also work! I think the kit also comes with a jack. spare tire kit e60 550i bmw p/n 36110308889 $299 http://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/show...diagId=36_0916 steel mini spare wheel... 4BX17 ET:18 bmw p/n 36116758778 $66.00 Then order a mini tire from TireRack or a local tire dealer. http://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/show...diagId=36_0718

I think your wheel has the wrong offset(ET)... This is the alloy mini wheel I had... 3,5X17 ET:8 bmw p/n 36116788203 You can see the spare tire options IF you select an euro build car on the ETK... http://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/show...diagId=36_1274 You wil then need to order a DOT approved mini tire... 125/80R17 Dack PS: The smallest wheel a 135i can use is a 17 inch. 1M's need an 18 inch spare.

Dackelone: Do you have a TPMS in your spare? I'm figuring that would confuse the receivers in the car, but I also assume you'd get an error if you were to run with the spare since the flat one with TPMS would be in the trunk.

Btw... I've never had to use my full size spare. But two years ago while in Italy with some BMW friends(Sella 1.0 trip) one of our guys experienced a little bit too much power on over steer... he broke his right rear tire and wheel. I lent him my full size spare. This is the real reason why I carry a full size spare. You don't want to be limited to "just" a 120 mile range(and only 45 mph) speed. Having a full size spare is the only way to travel with full peace of mind.
