Motor Mount Upgrade

My OE motor mounts with 192k miles are toast, and I'm going to be replacing them in the near future. I have new OEM (Rein) motor mounts, but I'd like to do an upgrade. I hope this thread will be helpful for anyone shopping-around in the future (Nice thing is that 128i and 135i mounts are the same).

After about 30 minutes of research, my initial preferences are:
1. Turner Solid: Very racecar, but much less expensive than poly.
2. Turner ~90A Polyurethane Mounts: Good compromise, but expensive.
3. 034 Solid Rubber: High apparent failure rate, very affordable.

What are your thoughts? I can tolerate a good bit of NVH (I have M3 arms, solid subframe mounts, M3/Poly diff bushings, M3 trans mounts), but I don't want it to be too much. I track my car a lot, and can appreciate having some built-in ability to party when I want...

Thanks!

I think I read somewhere the 335i RH motor mount is an "upgrade".

What about 1m mounts? Are they an upgrade?

A result of the "balancers hitting subframes, shredding belts, and feeding front main seals an unfortunate dose of rubber" issue. I do know that the 335is got slightly more rigid mounts, but they're still fluid-filled (which is what I don't really want).

The 1M didn't get different mounts from the 135i, surprisingly. Anything is better than what's in my car, but it isn't really the comprehensive upgrade that I'm looking for.

I've wanted/looked for an upgrade before, and was really hoping the 034 mounts were the answer (solid rubber for reasonable DD NVH). Was disappointed to hear about the failures (I read the posts/reviews).

In my experience, going to a 90A or even 80A poly mount was too annoying for me to deal with. I did this on my RX-8 which has a very smooth engine (rotary) to begin with, and after a while the vibrations were too much. I sold the poly mounts before I sold the car and went back to stock, and OMG it was such a relief.

So that's going to be the major decision for you at this point, if you track the car a ton, and don't drive daily or have a high tolerance for the buzzing maybe the 90A works for you. Otherwise, fresh LH factory mount with a 335is RH mount will still be a world of difference from your worn out/blown stock ones...

If anyone in the aftermarket is listening, now would be a good time to come out with a quality rubber mount that doesn't fail in 5K! These cars are getting old and people will be looking for good replacements...

I run BFI Stage 1 mounts in my car. at idle there is a considerable amount of vibration. I have considered bumping the idle up 100RPMS as it seems to be smooth at 1100. Incredibly responsive and beautiful craftsmanship. I do not track my car.

Ordered AKG 75D Poly Motor Mounts, because I'm full of surprises

Saw some good reviews, and they weren't heinously expensive.

It was only the 'is' model that got the firmer mount and it was only one of the two. I can't remember which side the firmer one goes on.

I *believe* it's the exhaust side....RealOEM would be able to confirm I guess.

Update on the BFI mounts.

I have put about 2000 miles on the mounts. They have definitely broken in a bit, the vibrations at idle are a lot less harsh than when I first put them in. The heat in the summer time certainly made the mounts a little softer, but even now that it's 30-40 degrees daily here I don't think they are as bad as when I first got them.

I love this mounts and would recommend them if you can tolerate a some NVH at idle.
