Nice. I didn't think they made 17x9 all I saw was 17x8 et40
Why did you choose k8r vs k5r

I got some connections at Tirerack (haha not really, just a bunch of continual researching). April 10th will be their first stock actually. The wheel JUST came out.

I personally like the design of the K8R. Looks a bit like my APEX wheels. And they're like 0.2 lbs lighter I think (which really doesn't matter, but they're like 16.3 lbs a piece)

I managed to get my 275 Rivals mounted to stock wheels (lightly modified - Street class legal) and stock suspension at normal camber (-.9) with tight clearance, but no rubbing.

You shave down the hub of the wheel or something?

Yep. 3mm.
And now they only weigh like 26.3lbs
I'd have used a lightweight option if I could find a street legal one with enough offset.

Did you just have a machine shop mill them down? I've been thinking about this, and was wondering which shops would be cool with doing this and not bringing up a big fuss over safety/liability.

^Exactly. I have yet to find a shop in my area that is willing to do this, and a shop I trust who is willing to machine my wheels.

The second machine shop I tried was happy to do it. (First was a manufacturing machine shop that didn't do one-offs but let me know I would want a "large manual lathe")
They happened to have a custom clamping system already made to clamp the front edge of the rim to the lathe.
As for the safety, the loss of material is linear to the strength loss. 3mm is about 25%. I assume OEM wheels are over engineered so hoping they will still be plenty strong.
Charged me $120.

Thanks for adding "FS" to the title. Now I don't feel I'm crashing someone else's party.

Finally got my APEX 18x9 +42 mounted and I am running 255/35 Federal RS-Rs this season. I have my race on Friday and should really be able to test out these tires on the track first, then Auto-x the week after.

Some good knowledge here, thanks guys!

Pictures of your setup? 18x9 ET42 square?

Impressive. 275 already seems to be pushing it on my 9.5" wheels. :O

Okay mounted them but I put on a 10mm spacer on the rear only for aesthetic reasons, and then had to put on a 3mm spacer up front because tire was slightly rubbing on shock. I will take a picture tonight and post it.

Nice setup. I'm following this thread closely. I calculated around ET39 up from for 18x9 wheels, which matches your setup. Let us know if you rub

What suspension are both of you running?

ET39 would never work on my coilover setup

I'm shocked that you're running a 10 mil spacer ON TOP OF the 9" ET42 wheel in the rear. With 8.5" ET50 and 255 RS3, -1.7* camber, I rubbed until I firmed the dampers up, and my setup is pretty flush looking.

I have done major fender work on the inside. I had to shave down my bumper tabs on the front and rear so that it won't rub. I am also fully rolled with all gunk removed on the inside. Took a lot of work but no rubbing what so ever. I want 9.5 rears next time but gotta wait till someone sells just the rears.

Just so everyone is aware,

Shaving the bumper tabs IIRC is illegal per ST rules:

Quote:
Fenders may not be cut or flared but the inside lip may be rolled to gain additional tire clearance. (The outer fender contour may not be changed.) Plastic and rubber wheel well splash shields may be modified for tire clearance and to accommodate a rolled inside fender lip. The modifications may serve no other purpose (e.g., air intake, brake ducts, etc). No other changes to the standard fenders or wheel wells are permitted

Lol. Well then I guess I didn't see that in the rules. Thanks for the heads up.

Thanks for the heads up. Good thing I don't go crazy with auto-x. Just a hobby. ,I prefer track events.
