Turbo upgrade budget?
Looking todo the fraken turbo upgrade and wondering do you think 5k is enough to budget out the turbos and install? With some other work? Like oil pan gasket, tune it etc. Let me know what you guys think would be a good budget

What are your power goals? If you're manual you'll need a clutch upgrade. Are you going to run e85? You're going to need fueling either way which is more expensive. 5k in my opinion is a budget if you're DIY'ing everything. -Pure stage 2 ~$3500 -Install for turbos ~$1000 -Stage 2 LPFP ~$405 -Tune ~$300-500 -Maintenance work ~500 This is like the bare minimum. BARE minimum. This is like the chick that is barely bangable and you won't ever talk to her again after. You're going to need other bolt ons too, downpipes, chargepipe, intakes, etc. Lots of stuff to factor in. All depends on your power goals and where you're taking the car to get worked on.

Just need todo turbo upgrade, fuel pump, and some maintenance! Im choosing to go with frankenturbos because i have been following their progress with the platform for abit and im pretty impressed with what he has done so far. Also his package deal is alittle more appealing price and with what comes with it. Also What do you recommend as some "while your doing the turbos" maintenance? Im aware of the clutch, looking to get the 335is or ive heard that the 5 series clutch works as well and can support 500+wtq. Just looking to have it all ready todo and dont want any surprises with issues.Just a smooth set up. |

Again I wouldn't touch frankenturbos. Pure turbos/RB's only. I had a MK6 GTI with the F23t turbo upgrade, which is common on that platform. The turbo is Chinese and junk. You're spending a lot of money for the upgrade itself the few hundred $ is gonna be negligible in the long run of the car. Hit up pure turbos and see what type of deals they can give you, or RB's. My opinion is save up and do it right the first time, as I've cheaped out and its costed me more money in the end. I don't do that anymore. While you're down there if your oil pan gasket is leaky/weeping replace it. And replace all the boost lines. Also not sure how many miles are on your car but get a walnut blast done your intake ports may be gunky. You mention a 335is clutch which is good, but if you're going to push more power a spec stage 3 would be better. I've seen some stock turbo 335is's that are manual with FBO e85 power start slipping and that's around 460whp/550+wtrq

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I think you don't necessarily have to upgrade the fuel system with Stage 2 if you only plan modest gains and not pushing it too far (say, 400-ish whp). If you are going for something like 500 whp, you will need it.
I'm also considering a turbo upgrade for the spring. Definitely going Pure, just a question of S1 or S2. I'm only looking for 400+whp, so I could probably get that with just S1. My understanding though it that even though S1 will make that power, it will be working harder to do it than an S2 turbo, so the bigger turbo might gain more longevity and less hard wear at that power level. Hopefully I'm not jacking your thread, but I thought this perspective might be helpful, depending on your goals. Edit** sorry - I just saw your goals lower in one of your later posts (500+). Definitely needs S2 and fueling help.

And yes, you could push a stock turbo there with FBO and pump gas via tune, but I don't think it would last very long.

MHD 2+ only advertises like 380-390 or something like that. I'm sure you can squeeze a few more out here and there, but it's not like just flash MHD with a DP and FMIC and you're at 400 whp on pump gas easy. Or maybe I'm wrong, but everything I've seen here indicates you really need to mix E fuel or meth to get over 400 whp (or upgrade the turbo, which is really the limiting factor on the N55). But YMMV. I'm not an expert, and my focus has been on keeping my 1er a reliable DD, so I've not looked into pushing it too hard.

Does anyone know any infor about the on3 single turbo kit? And what are the issues with it? I saw its almost the same price as ps2 and maybe going single would help long term with maintenance and just less worrying about upgraded twins.

Rb's are fine, but pure's customer service is top par. Do some research of other people's experience and decide what's best for your needs/budget
