I think its too expensive. You can buy a base M3 sedan for $9k more, which has more standard equipment and much stronger performance.

I think a 10% premium over the 135i would have been reasonable.

But who am I? These will fly off the showroom floors over MSRP and people will glad to spend it.

Based on the 135i Options prices from BMW USA I figure the fully Loaded 1M should be about $53500 ish. Just a thought.

Press release states: "All 1 Series models now feature standard iPod/USB integration."

Does this apply to the 1M?

Thanks.

Hopefully they've removed the NAV from the Convenience package and option invoice pricing is the same as the 2011 1er.

That's expensive. Also surprised about the new 135 pricing, that's like 5k more than my 08 was base.

oh man. 50k for an entry level M car.

whats the incentive in not getting a used e9x M3? that is a better performer all around!

none. so i guess you only get the 1M if u love the way it looks.

performance wise, the e9x m3 is superior and has a s based motor and is more capable than the 1M.

Honestly--that doesn't seem high to me...for the last year when everyone has been speculating, most people thought it would be right around $50K with decent options.

Don't get me wrong--$47K is expensive...but my 135 was $43K and it doesn't have Navi or the upgraded stereo...

I would assume so--the iPod/USB is part of the "value package"....I think those are things that will just be standard from here on out...

I'm not sure I agree that the current M3 will easily outperform the 1M...we know that the N54 can be tuned for more horsepower, and the M division should have solved the handling problems of the 135 with the M3 goodies down low on the 1M, not to mention the much wider rubber on the 1M vs. the 135...

I think we will see some great comparisons between the two, but I just don't see the M3 "killing" the 1M...

That's exactly the first calculation I did after reading the US price!

Jus remember the Aussies get more screwed...

I think they're already raised the price on top of the VAT increase. New 135i is 31,765

Is the UK price released now then? How much?

You are right, BMW UK has just increased prices due to VAT rise. I had my car delivered on the 30th December after much kicking and screaming to avoid the VAT rise. My car was 30,600 basic from memory plus leather etc I think though BMW may have sneaked a touch of a price rise in there though on top of the VAT while they were at it.

ok i agree. but what happens when you lighten up the m3, add suspension, better gearing, stickier tires?

the ring lap times do not lie. the e9x m3 does it in 8:05. the 1m does it in 8:12. if you want to talk about modified cars, then modify both, not just the 1m.

the m3 w/better flowing headers, an aftermarket suspension, r comps, better pads, and some weight reduction - essentially a m3 gts - did it in 7:48

a 1m with a chip, coilovers, r comps, better pads, weight reduction - i don't think it can shave close to 24 seconds off its lap time. i think it can surpass the e9x m3 STOCK nurburgring numbers, and get close to the sub 8 minute mark, but that still leaves 12 seconds on the table.

the e9x m3 is a better performing car than the 1m - stock for stock and modified as well. i don't see an incentive in buying a used 1m other than the looks or the title of owning a 1m, especially when its older brother is cheaper (used) and better performing and way more reliable (n54 hasn't been proven on the race track) and resourceful (2 legitimate rear seats or 2 rear doors).

I'm totally with you. Not sure what all these people expected. The price is at the bottom end of all the speculation. Amazing for what you're getting. People need to look at the absolute value of the car, not the relative. If anything, I guess this price will make people truly understand the value proposition of the 135. I remember when people talked so much shit about how expensive _it_ was. LOL

GG people. The price is fantastic. Stop complaining. We are so lucky in the US.

I'm just gonna go out on a limb here (obviously this is pure speculation) and say that I think the 1M with Cobb's new flash (once it's available for the 1M) will match, if not slightly beat a stock e92 M3 around a track. For less than $1k, you're getting nearly the same power. With slightly less weight, same suspension bits, and the flash, this will be the car that BMW meant to build and for roughly $10k less. :P

Please dont have a go at me about this post, but I look at the 1M as a 'special' BMW, it's not just any old car that will be sold to the masses, and therefore it will always have a premium price - any other manufacturer would do the same.

Most people that buy this car (me being one of them) will be buying it because they know exactly what it is and how special it is.

Just my thoughts .... Please dont hate!

you can't compare a stock car vs. a modified car- its truly not fair.

a bubble back 9 second honda would take down a stock 2010 viper srt 10.

how bout you send that viper srt10 to underground racing and see what happens then
