I hope we're able to put in an actual order well before that though
(Hell, I'd settle for confirmation that we'll be ABLE to order )

OK, the other thread stating the rumored 60/month US allocation has me curious... where do Military Sales production allocations come from? Do they pull our slots from the US total? If so... how will that affect availability for us? Are Military Sales allocations separate?
Any ideas?

I think Military Sales allocations are totally seperate. I know, for example, that even though you order a US-spec car, until you import it to the US and register for warranty cover through BMWNA, they have NO knowledge of your car or VIN.
I'm guessing the allocations are assigned by the factory or BMW AG to the various national subsidiaries first - maybe someone with Military Sales can straighten this out, but I think they probably get the scraps in terms of allocations. |

Well if it doesn't happen, I may wait to see how the 2014 m3 turns out ot get a much cheaper z4m coupe with the engine I love so much. Also by november I'll be sure of my color choice and options, plus all the reviews will be out.

From BMWblog:
"Furthermore, the order bank for the 1M is already full at BMWNA and some dealerships with a large number of orders might have difficulties in filling in those purchase orders." Not trying to be a negative Nancy here, but as more info like this comes out I become more and more skeptical that mil sales will ever see a 1M. |

I actually think that BMW may increase the length of the production window given the demand for the vehicle...it would make sense from a business standpoint....

But if they produce the 1M past 31 Dec 2011 then the 1M gets calculated into BMW's emissions average for the 2012 CAFE regulations, so I wonder if that has anything to do with it?

fyi, I emailed Military Sales to see if they know anything... they forwarded me to Pentagon who said (nothing new):
Thanks for your E-mail to BMW Military Sales. BMW Military Sales has informed us that they have requested production units from the factory for the 1M Coupe, however at the current stage, they can’t guarantee that production will become available. Although the US is the strongest market for M vehicles for BMW, BMW has a worldwide demand on this new model and unfortunately they can’t guarantee enough production for the Stateside market, as production for the 1 M Coupe is limited. We wish we could give you more specific information at this stage, however we are unable to do so. Is there another vehicle that might be of interest to you? We are on the same sheet of music, we’d also not like to see you wait all year and then perhaps production is not available. Kindest Regards, David Baker Pentagon Car Sales GmbH David Baker Managing Director |

I spoke with George at the Ramstein Pentagon Car Sales and he told me they are expecting to get the car in their dealership in November.

Got this today, seems to confirm the November timeline. Interesting though is the use of November being a 2012 model. Will they have more options and colors by then? Is the 1M truly a 1 year car? I guess we will see....
Hope all is well…. We have been informed by factory that we will not be offering the 1M models as 2011's. We will start to receive productions slots when it moves to a 2012 model in November. I can keep your order open and obtain one of the very production slots as planned if you wish, but I wanted to inform you of the time line. Please let me know how you'd like to proceed? I look forward to your reply |

Interesting information.
If that's true there will be a production in 2012, which everywhere else is stated untrue. |

Well, if Military Sales would at least let us put our orders in, BMW would know that there's a demand and get us some slots.

I just heard from my CA
Basically he told me that is looking like I may have to wait on the BMW MSP for a possible allocation at the M/Y change which will be in September. Sounds like he doesn't know if/when it will be offered. I am about ready to just order an M3 or even a 135i. I would hate to lose my last summer here waiting for a car that might not even show up for us. |

Sounds like the US as a main market (and a 2012 CAFE burden) is prioritized inside 2011 and ROW markets get their share when the US shuts down deliveries end of the year.
No doubts that every-one that wants one is able to get one. Politics and other non-circumstantial stuff (certainly not production limits) could ruin this for a few customers. Certainly hope no-one incl. military is passed over. |
