Wow!

-The moonroof as an option on the 128i
-Deep Sea Blue replacing Monaco Blue
-HD Standard
-128i is $400 cheaper

All great things. Quick question - what is the difference the now standard BMW hi-fi system and the new BMW professional system? Is it an upgrade or downgrade?

I believe the professional system is what is a 3 series.... but to be honest I can't tell much a difference

Thanks for posting Dave! Changes are about what I was expecting, interesting choice to decontent the base stereo but add HD radio in. I'm guessing there is production efficiency at work with integrating HD into all of the head units and a bit of decontenting with the base stereo to keep prices in line. I expect the downgrade of the base stereo is also meant to increase the take rate on the premium h-fi option.

I'm bummed that the moonroof de-content wasn't done to the 135 as well, as a tall guy I would order the car without it even if there wasn't any price credit.

Monaco goes away as expected. Not sure how DSB will look on the 1, but color changes are generally good to keep the car fresh IMO. I just wish they wouldn't have axed 2 of the best colors on the car (MB and Sparkling Graphite).

I seem to remember there are a total of 4 stereo options available total on the 1 in other markets (Base, Prof., Hi-Fi, and Prem. Hi-Fi), in the U.S. we get the top 2 as the base and option. I'm guessing the standard radio is now the radio that is 1 notch down the ladder so to speak.

This is consistent with the ordering guide for the 2010 3 series coupe that I saw that shows a removal of 2 speakers from the base stereo option. Just a bit of cost cutting at work to allow them to retain the base prices, IMO this isn't bad at all compared to what's happened with the 3 series in the last year.

Great post, dbtheo!

IS standard 663 Radio BMW Professional an upgrade over previous standard radio?
I guess we dont get free bluetooth or ipod integration? or radio professional has that included?
No price increase - Nice!

@Angry3: The radio thing may also be balanced out a little by the fact that they now get HD Radio standard.

Dave, Any updates on the packages and stand-alone options? (I assume pricing changes there, or minimizing packages, like the OZ folks have with the Sport vs. M Sport packages)?

Might be wrong about this, but that sounds like it might be a standard stereo downgrade. The Euro-spec models, if I recall from a thread about a year ago, have four stereo options. The standard hi-fi is the second-highest spec, where premium hi-fi is the highest. I though Professional was a step down (sans tweeters and subs)... though it could simply be a new naming scheme.

Professional is a step down but I think Lemon is now going to be a standard interior color.

I would get mine in Monaco Blue, but it wasnt available when I ordered my car (4/08). I wish we could custom build our cars like they can in Europe. Just about everything is a stand alone option. I didnt want to pay for premium package just to get heated mirrors. What do you guys think: stand alone options or packages?

Glad to see you around here too

I would describe deep sea blue to be similar to interlagos blue, but without so much purple. Deep sea is the launch color for the Z4, all those blue ones you see in pics are deep sea. Beautiful color
