Regarding 1-Series heaters not blowing hot air

Well, about a month ago I posted on here that my 128i would not blow hot air out unless you turn it up to 84 (the front vents facing the driver/passenger). If you have it at 82-83, it's pretty much cold air. But when you turn it to 84 it gets super hot.

It sounds like a lot of people have had the same thing. I just took my car for inspection and asked them if they could look at that and they said it's basically working fine. They said they made an adjustment in idrive (I don't have the idrive feature though?), but it still works the same way as it did before.

So I honestly think it's just the way the vehicle is, I did notice that in my car the vents that blow air up towards the windshield and the vents blowing down by your feet blow hot air when you adjust the temperature. But for the vents facing the driver/passenger...it seems like I can only get hot air if I turn it up to 84 degrees.

Oh well, still an awesome car regardless.

Anyone else notice this in their 1 series?

The combinations of climate control are really weird in the 1er , same issue here.
I remember trying every combination last year and it was super odd. Like the passenger temp and driver temp depend on each other, and like you say it will be cold and then all the sudden hot 1 degree later. Pretty odd haha but oh well. will have to go through the motions again and see how it breaks down.

Same here. I've just learned to live with it.

If your climate control is set to Auto, then the center vents blow cold (fresh?) air even though heat comes out of the footwell and dashtop vents. You can eliminate this by manually selecting the airflow for the top and bottom on the left side of the HVAC panel and no air will come out of the center. When you turn it up to 84 degrees, it's the same as Max and heat will come out of the center vents.

Auto CC must be very similar across manufacturers. My Acura is the same way. I just put the fan in manual for center vents only, and only then will they will blow warm air.

I could be wrong, but I think it has something to do with the temperature difference between where you start the car (heated garage) and when you drive out and there's a rapid temperature difference. I find that if I turn up the temperature and then turn it back down to where I had it, the car will adjust and blow warm air again? Maybe it's a different issue from what you guys are talking about.

Has anyone tried going back down to the old temperature after temporarily raising it?

(Edit: The reason why I suspect this, the car needs to know current cabin temperature and outside temperature so it knows how much heat to apply to incoming air... But I'm totally guessing!)

Yea I will need to try that too. Oh and that is a good idea, to turn off the front vents and just let the warm air come from the feet and up to the windshield.

It's funny because my 2nd car (my old beater car) is a 2001 Oldsmobile Alero, if you want heat in that thing you either turn the knob to low, medium, high or full blast.....and the heat works amazing and within 10 seconds you start to feel comfortable.

I don't see an issue here. If I need heat I turn up the temp and hot air comes from all vents.

Agreed, it shouldn't even say 84 it should just say Max.

If 83 feels "cold", has anyone actually checked it with a thermometer? Maybe it's actually 83 degrees. And it's just that the 84 / max setting is more like 100+ that makes it seem so much more effective.
