Some Germans beat you to it, installing a S65 engine and DSG in a 118i and called it "a wolf in sheep's cloths" as the title of the video.

Jawohl!!

The driver even says, how well that V8 works in the 1 series coupe. How it does not understeer, the front is very good and the rear can be turned into smoke or really perfectly controlled.

Man...its shit like that, makes me wish BMW released the 1M with that V8, as i said in other comments, id sell a kidney in the black market to get one.

They really should have put a V8 in the 1M, it was a bizarre, forced, limited run car anyway - why not go all out?

Its already becoming legendary even with the 'fake' non M engine... imagine if it came with a V8 in it.

That is overkill, that 118i has stock interior and livable. Also it has M3 suspension (though they only said in German M3 suspension, exact components are not revealed).

It was actually considered, i believe the engineers even planned a detuned 350-360hp S65 engine in the 1M through software tuning and some timing retarding/adjustments, though officially they will deny that and claim that time was the limiting factor. But eventually, they knew even with a detuned V8 that 1M costing €50K new (at the time) is €20K cheaper than the M3 (at the time) and will be quicker in every aspect.

Today at the Tuners shop i visited, they had 2 N54 cars. E93 convertible 335i and Z4 35iS. Both cars have a software tune and were purchased from new with 100K+km on the E93, they really like those engines for the road. That Z4 has 440hp with just a tune (it is one of those cars that respond very well to tuning). When i spoke to them regarding hot summer track days, they agreed that the N52 was a better choice than the N54 due to heat soaks and running hot.

Anyways, back on topic! one can always get a high mileage "cheap" 1M and shove a V8 S65 in it ^^

Thanks for your opinion, but that's all you got to say? "That is overkill?" The gentleman reviewing the car in the above video - Matt Farah (smokingtire.com) thinks it's "possibly the best BMW you could build at any price." I think it's pretty special too. Overkill? Sure, why not. But in my opinion, that a very good thing.

Here's a more recent video of the same car (but upgraded) reviewed Jay Leno (Jay Leno's Garage) - just another average car guy. He thinks the car is pretty special too. I think it's the best 1er ever built.

Hope you take the time to watch both videos. BTW, how could a person be a 1ADDICT and not love this car? It isn't your average every day driver that you would take to the market, that's for sure. It's way more than that. You'd definitely need a daily. lol

Overkill is not a bad thing, nor it is a good thing, it falls down to personal reference. On that note, if i were to keep my 125i as a daily and wanted a track E82, that conversion would be perfect But i like to have 1 car i can do both, yes i know there will be a compromise, but that is what i look for.
