Would love to know how to disable the thing - I have enough nannies in my life, without that one. It's like that sticker on the visors - has anyone read those since 1995? Did anyone with a baby ever read them in the first place?
The Carter Administration required all cars produced in 1974 to have an interlock system in the seatbelts - the 1974 models could not be started unless the seatbelt(s) (two front seats with weight in them) were fastened. People HATED it, and they relaxed it to just buzzing in 1975 and forward. But back-in-the-day, you could reach under the seat and unplug the wire - there was just one, and it was obvious. Not sure how it's welded into the electrical system today, but would be great to disable it - I'd like to be the one to decide if I need my seatbelt. |

I mean do what you want... But IMO if you are driving long enough to where the ding is annoying (longer than just getting in to move car into garage or something), you are driving too far without a seatbelt and asking for trouble.
As for your question though, I have no idea how you would disable it or if its even possible.

The bong can be coded out. This is the case with any of the sounds. Find someone in your area who does coding. If you can't find anyone, shoot me a PM and I will give you the contact information for someone who can do it remotely.

As others have said...just put your seat belt on....that's why it's annoying.
That being said....These things are the rage in Greece I'm told. I few of my (idiot) friends here use them.

disabling a safety feature like that could put the person that gives such information at risk of a law suit if the OP decides to sue after an accident. I can pcture the affidavit now. man gave advice on how to disable a citical safety device without giving adequate warnings of pending harm.
Just the other day i saw an accident where a girl hit a guard rail head on at around 45 miles per hour. If she hadnt had her seat belt on she would have been ejected from the vehicle. Certainly noone wants to roll up on a scene and see someone laying lifeless on the pavement. I saw that too about a month ago. He DIDNT make it. young too. to the OP. i certainly hope you do not find your answer on this issue AND PUT ON YOUR SEAT BELT EVERY TIME BEFORE YOU PLACE YOUR KEYS IN THE IGNITION. there i am covered.

I hate it when people get in my passenger seat and bitch about the noise instead of simply putting the seat belt on! Any other time the gong goes off though it drives me crazy

The reason i want to do this is bc if there is any weight in the passenger seat it goes off and that drives me nuts. I always put my belt on its like second nature to me

2. They did put the sensor on the passenger seat set a little too low, sometimes my bookbag sets it off with <30lbs.

I've had the chime go on if I put a case of beer or my laptop bag on the passenger seat. Of course, it decides to do this after I'm already half a mile down the road.
No really, put your damn seatbelt on. It keeps you in some control if you start to lose control of the vehicle, or get tagged by someone else. You're not safe if you are flopping around the car. Also, I don't want to be covering higher insurance rates because dumbasses have $150,000 of medical bills instead of $10,000 because they don't wear their seat belts.

I've had groceries, equipment, and the dog set off the passenger seatbelt alarm. Not all at the same time of course... But it's something that doesn't need to be there in MY car. Any passenger that gets in my car is reminded by something else...me...as the driver. The car doesn't move until I hear the belt click.

Much to our country's eternal shame.
Anyway, to the OP...anytime you start a thread in any car forum asking how to disable any "safety" features (seatbelt chimes, DRLs, etc., etc.), the safety nazis will emerge in full force armed to the teeth with their statistics and worse, their strongly-worded opinions on what an idiot you are (and how smart they are) for trying to disarm said feature. Sad to say, it's inevitable. Like most diseases. |

I will have to agree the the passenger seat warning is a touch sensitive. It has a tendency to go off for my laptop or even my water bottle... The frustrating part of this is that it never does it from when I start driving, but rather after about 5 minutes. I then find myself floundering around while trying to silence the annoying alarm. More likely to have an accident doing this than any possible risk exposure to my imaginary passenger.
I should mention that my passengers are always strapped in before I drive. My theory (and what I tell them) is that, in an accident, I don't want them bouncing around and hurting someone else, namely me.
