unfortunately I had to swap in an e92 M3 harness. In all honesty I should have done that first. it would have saved a bunch of time on getting it going.

I have an AA mid section coming to mate up to the Supersprint Y and 1m rear sections.

very good news. Can't wait to see it all done and running. Did you change out the rod bearings on the s65?

They are on the list. Want to see the blackstone results first.

You don't take me for one that doesn't know these cars very well but I was watching this and he had mentioned that the results of the copper testing on the oil should be over time, which makes sense to me as you would learn most from a trend rather than a snapshot. You've spent so much time and effort, I'd do the bearings for peace of mind. What year car did the motor come out of?

To confirm, this means you just straight removed the entire 128 harness and took the entire e92 m3 harness and ran it through the car - wheel speed sensors, etc?

Thanks

Yep, made life sooooo much easier. Car has been certified and is a complete blast to drive. Now my time is going to be spent on removing the rear seats, fabbing a section 2 of the exhaust to get the rasp toned down. Currently it is cat less with AA section 2 merged into a Supersprint 1m 2 into 1 rear system.

Ah man, such a great build. Excellent execution!

Couple questions if you have a second...

That the Seibon hood?
Have you had it on the scales yet?

I’m guessing it’s about the same weight as a 135i similarly optioned?

Again, bravo!

Another question: on the rear quarter panel install, how did you attach? Bonding adhesive, resistance spot weld, or other?

Would you do full panel install again? I'm mulling over the options, and the glass removal for the full panel replacement seems like a pain.

been away for a while sorry guys
work sucks and i bout an exocet/miata ===DARKSIDE
have yet to weigh the car, it will be corner balanced this spring. i took out the sparcos and put sport non electric seats in. It was just a pain going places with race seats.
the rear quarters are installed to BMW spec which meands they are bonded up on the c pillar and spot in other.
take the time and do the glass out. there will be less issues with fitment and welding

Hey,

Nice page man!

I'm also building a E82(120d) with a S65.
i want to swap the wiring loom from the E92 M3 just like you did. But i have a few questions.

- How did you connect the rear lights (the M3 has led tail lights and the e82 doesnt have that)

- Does the abs work good ? (because its a lighter car)

- Did you do al lot of coding before you could start the engine after putting the wiring loom from the m3 in the car ? i think the m3 has al lot more options than the E82

- Did you put al the electric moduls from the M3 in the E82 (I have already done the DME/CAS/EKP/ABS) are there other electrical components that i should look at or is it al the same from the E92 and E82 ?

I hope you can help me out.
Greetings from the Netherlands

Use newtis for the wiring to trace location. Abs is fine you can actual code it at a 1m.use your lcm from your 1 to help with lights. Stare t the car then scan with ista to find errors and code out unused modules. The e82 is a shrunk e92 by 4 inches in the rear.

You will need to depin the connector and swap some of the wires around. The inner brake light will need to be spliced into the outer brake light connector if you want BFD to be maintained. Also remove all the lamp warnings to make your life easy.

If you need help with the coding, I can send you the TRC files from my modules, but depending on what you want to keep/remove you will need to code.

I second keeping the FRM from the E82. It makes retaining the lights much easier and allows for the auto up/down windows to work. For some reason I kept getting the anti-trap warning when I did my swap.

Lastly, major props gixracer. His guidance with my swap saved me a lot of headaches.

I hate Michigan roads. So I had to spend som time shaving the front fender to bumper connection on the out side edge. We have horrible potholes and road repairs. There was a new re-save section by my house that had a lip on it that slammed the suspension. Big rub.
Here are a couple pics of the change. I added a new hole to stabilize the bumper. The bumper only attaches in two spots, shaving eliminated one hence the addition.

A couple years back I was bitten by the bimmer bug and bought a 330ci without a motor and trans. It went through a zhp motor swap then a s54 swap. I loved it and it was all good for the track days but was looking for a fresher look. I had a VW Mk6 GTI 6sp for a daily, but my purist rwd made me long for a better DD. I traded my GTI for a auto E91. That did not last long so it got a n55 and manual swap from a 2011 135i. I was going to use that chassis for my clone but too many things went sideways so it got the full part out. I sold my e46 and found my black sport 128i slicktop and was truly impressed by it in stock form.... Long live NA power!. Currently its has headers, axle back exhaust, and 3stage IM, 135 brakes/master and wheels(waiting for apex to deliver group buy).

What are the plans. Well the new chassis is going to go oem 1M fenders/bumpers, the clone works. I am not going to be original but the guys who did the s65 swaps I will follow. I chose this car cause it was a slicktop also, I'm 6'5" on a good day and like the extra headroom. The fact that the partout will pay for the chassis is a plus to the only real out of pocket cost is the build not the original chassis.

The project will take a bit of time but I will do my best to get pics up and chronicle the journey
Can’t wait to see finished product
