What do you guys think of the vbox sport ?

This would be a better way of measuring the cars time.

You can use PocketDyno+ with your iPhone. (If you're not a Samsung guy!)

It's pretty accurate. Someone used it at WSID (before the timing issues) and found it to be spot on.

Here's a 0-100 km/h run in a M235i.

I now have some 275 Hoosier drag slicks, i might remove passenger seat next time, and i fitted a Rob Beck pcv valve which should add at least 10000hp

There is a guy on one of the other forums in the 10's with his E92 S/C M3. By memory he stated suspension and tyres were a huge help plus cutting weight from the car.

He had a set of meaty radials and cheesecutters up front.

One of these seats would be great in addition to removing the passenger seat and rear seats

Some interesting reading from a dude called lostmarine:

I've been working on advancing the drag racing performance of the E9x.

Here is where I differ from most. I want to share the info, not horde it to myself.

10.5x's came relatively easy with the car, All I really had to do to go from 11.3@131 to 10.5@132 was just put a tire on it, and use the "mediocre" HP I'm making.

History-
For guys that dont know, im currently sitting at #2 for E9x 1/4 mile,

10.544@132, 1.74 60'. 560 HP (DJ) Evolve A2A S/C, 7.5PSI, Exhaust, Defiv Lockdown Kit, DCT, Weight reduction (Seats Out/Driver Race seat) Apex ARC8 17x10 w/Hoosier 275/40 Radials

#1 is 10.466@135, 1.70 60', ??HP ESS A2W S/C, 10+PSI, Titanium Exhaust, Linelock, Ice tank, Weight reduction (Seats Out/Driver Race seat) DCT, CCW's w/Hoosier 275/40/17 Radials

#3 is 10.65@131, 1.72 60', ??HP, ESS A2W S/C 7.5 PSI,Exhaust, Weight Reduction, DCT, OEM 18" M3 wheels w/ Nitto NT555R Radials

#4 is 10.69@129mph, 1.63 60', VF620, 7.5PSI, Linelock, Weight Reduction, DCT, OEM 18" M3 Wheels w/MT ET Streets

Im not up to speed on actual N54 powered 1/4 mile times, but Im referencing M3's as its what i'm currently involved.

As you can see, we make us of power we have, but the E9x chassis is not easy to 60'. With the exception of VAC's exceptional 1.6, we are all right about the same. This is unacceptable. I did manage to cut a 1.54 60' on the same launch that broke the trans, so I know the car can do it.

With the amount of HP the N54's are pushing, if we can get the chassis to hook, and you guys hit full boost, the cars are going to rip!

What have I broken?
1. Clutches (not so much "broken" as worn out as clutches do)
-Replaced with Dodson clutches
2. The 10.5 day ended with a broken driveshaft.
-Replaced with OEM Driveshaft
3. 1 week later, I launched the car again and broke 2nd gear IN the DCT
-broken DCT is at Dodson being torn apart- they are working on tooling right now ( have been for weeks) to make billet upgrades for us, much like the GTR guys, no ETA on parts.

So that brings me up to date.

After many many hours of research and online calculators, I decided to switch to a full slick tire, Bias Ply. Why? Because it is a known fact that BP tires are more forgiving to the driveline of a manual car than radials on a high RPM launch.

But we have DCT you say.. YES! Its an automated MANUAL, and just like the top GTR guys figured out, a hard launch is better received with a BP than a Radial. It is also widely known that you will lose MPH with a BP, but the ET benefits outweigh the mph losses.

As such, I didn't feel that a 26" tire provided enough sidewall on a 17" rim, and went with a 28x10x17 Hoosier Quick Time Pro, mounted on the same Apex ARC 8.

Its also widely known NOT to mix BP and Radial tires's ( rumor is that you MAY get by if trapping under 130, but its still not suggested).

So, how do we get a BP for the front? Well, its not that easy. I ordered up a set of Weld Racing RT-S S77B 17x4.5 2.2BS and High Pad Option. 6 weeks later they arrived. Yes, you read that right, 4.5" wide... SKINNY'S!

These suckers clear the front brakes no problem, WAY more room than the 17" Apex ARC 8's.

There are a few options for BP Skinny's- MT, Hoosier, M&H,Pheonix, etc.
I stuck with Hoosiers, 27.5x5x17

Why 27.5? Well, the DCT is finicky, if the rotations/sizes are too far off, the DME thinks the tires are spinning, so I didn't want to sort out another issue. 28" I felt would be too tall to fit, and as I found out after mounting, they would have been.

But how does it all fit? The rears were fine, no issue. The front had to be raised. I was riding pretty low upfront to begin with, so I cant be sure exactly what height will work for everyone.

EDIT:
Passenger side rear does not need trimming, but the plastic fender will need to be removed. there is a bulge on that side (rearward)not present on the drivers side.

The Weld S77's are 80.77mm bore, while our BMW's are 72.56. I ordered a custom set of hubcentric spacers to fill the void, ill post the link a bit later. Came out to about $50 shipped.

Also, i have the wheel studs, with cone lugs. You will need cone lugs to center up the wheel anyway. Not sure if these are available for OEM. I feel the studs are a good cheap upgrade anyway.

How do they ride/feel? Awesome! Looks pretty badass too. I took it out on the street today to ensure it tracked straight and no rubbing etc.

I wouldn't daily on these, but I wish I could!

I just got them all mounted up today, and had every intention of going to Atco for some initial testing, even in this heat. But i got an 02 code so I have to swap that out when it arrives, and then we will continue.

Im sure your going to bring up pinion angle, suspension settings, instant center, spring rates, etc. But that will have to be in another post as we need to know how it hooks first to dial the suspension in.

As it stands right now, I have no further information. I just wanted to give people out there some insight as to what can and cant be done

Now for the pics:

Sounds nasty!!!

That slip looks legit and it's a great pass.
That was actually a terrible run, wheel spin through the 60 foot and hitting the bump/dip on the track 3/4 on the way up makes me break traction.

That's why I always run left lane its silky smooth and always a lot stickier than the right but it has faulty timing so I discarded all the time slips.

The Vbox sport should be here by Friday so Wednesday week I should get some passes with accurate timing.

Its a known fact if you start stripping weight and add full slicks you will lower your et.

My goal was to run in full street trim, how I drive on the road.

It was never to get the lowest time using a drag setup but the lowest in full street trim.

I only got the nt-01's so I can recreate the 1.3 sixty but now we know its the timing issues.

I wonder what I can do with accurate timing ?

Well I got 1.7 in the right lane which apparently had no issues, with the vbox timing in the left lane it's going to be interesting

Sanity prevails, all good. Good to see people passionate about drag racing their BMW street cars.

Will see what the times are going to with the vbox sport, i'm not saying that the original times are wrong, but most probably are so that's where the vbox will stop any bs.

That's as accurate as its going to get

I'm wondering if the issue at the track is with the one foot rollout and not the actual timing itself.

Going to do a full review and write up on it and full testing at the track.

Well I went down to test the racelogic vbox sport and its god dam accurate.

I could not get a decent launch but managed a best of 11.6@121 mph with a 1.7s sixty

I can report that the times are correct at the track at WSID with no anomalies.

Ran both left and right lane but mostly right.

Very happy with the vbox its dead accurate run after run, unlike wsid time slips

It was a very good run vs a tuned Audi S7
