I had my second rainy HPDE this weekend. It was probably more fun than I've ever had on track before. I started off nervous as hell about sliding the car but by the end of the day I was getting more comfortable. I still have a lot to learn about going fast, though!

That's pretty crazy! After you went off did you call it a day or just quit recording?

Big question - how did you get a 10/ 2020 registration sticker?

There was only a few minutes left after that, and it was the last session of the day, so I packed it in.

It is an 01/20 registration (renewed in January).

The job was way easier than I expected. Once the airbox and bellypan is removed, you can access the entire system except for the cooler, which is available once you removed the radiator and unclip the condenser. BTW this is the first ever time I had to bust out the actual service manual. No one had a fancy DIY for anything power steering so https://newtis.info REALLY came in clutch.

Great car. Alpine white on leather coral red. M-sport, slicktop, manual, lighting package. Manual seats. He's already got the 3 stage intake (which I'm installing a new small DISA in soon lol) and is looking towards headers and MILVs.
Ouch, that must've been pricey. Didn't take the opportunity to swap in an M3 rack? And yes, NewTIS is da bomb!

Belt looks and feels dry, and isn't squeaking. I have my old belt, which wasn't very worn, in the garage if there is an issue. (I've had this leak for 3 months, AFAIK, without a belt issue *frantically knocks on wood*)

I replaced the gasket between the cylinder head and the filter housing in November of 2017, but I didn't take the opportunity to replace the gasket between the filter housing and the water-oil heat exchanger while I had the system dry and taken apart (*curses at self*).

Wet track days are awesome! Great time to learn the rain line (obviously) and play with the car's limits at much less disastrous speeds than if it were dry. My instructor made me leave traction control on (lame) until I went solo

^This guy knows what's up.

So the previous 5 I'd hit didn't cause any pain. It was #6 (that I backed out of on my own, pulled out of others) that did the car in.
Pushed the intercooler back, rubbed the lip off the P/S pulley, pushed the belt back and took a rib off. Didn't break the belt though.
So to get home I had to pull the intercooler out. I couldn't pull it away from the belt, ice packed on the backside? Don't know for sure yet. have to pull the front apart and find out.

The drifting was soooooo fun and watching my passengers hold on for dear life, worth the damage.
Waiting 6 hours for a AAA tow that never showed then risking driving the car 2.5 hours home ... then AAA finally calling me 10 hours after my initial submission. Yea. I just don't know what emotional state I'm in about that.

One of the kinda nice things about the N54, no MAF sensor! As long as you stay light on the throttle so the ecu doesn't expect to see any boost in the IM, it really doesn't care. And, you know, try not to suck up any crapola.....

Glad you made it home, you musta been stressing the whole way! 1M rep bumper time? Double the air flow to the oil cooler which is always nice, and not particularly unbecoming either...

Got that base covered. And that's why I'm not concerned about beating the hell out of the stock one.

Looks like the same bumper I've got, so......
Undertray fits/tucks up into the bumper just right. I've never drilled/screwed them together. Never had a problem. In Mexico, you know, since that's on my way home..., I've cleared 130+ and never had an issue with the undertray. I actually worry more about the hood lift at high MPH than I do about the 1M ducting or the undertray. What that means for you is fast rep bumper removal & install. Bring the OE with you & swap at the track, or just swap, go race, and swap back when you get home. Either way, it'll take longer to mount/dismount the OE than the Rep. The rep is just 3 in each wheel well and the 4 screws across the top center, literally 5 minutes to go from mounted to sitting off to the side on the ground.

As for the OE, you're probably neck deep into researching this, or at least thinking about it, but ghetto repair for your OE bumper is totally possible. Logic is sound, and, well..., normal nowadays. Certainly enough to make it track worthy. Check these links out for the beginnings of a plan if you haven't already started researching ABS welding & getting your OE bumper track ready again... And skip painting- put a sticker over it, because racecar!

I took your advice and switched out my grills today. I might like the full black grills more, now that I have the black handles. I may have to go ahead and do the performance side skirts.
Such a beautiful color. Best color for a sunset too!

Yes on both accounts! I just got my PPL, going to the FSDO on Thursday, and starting my instrument rating in the very near future

Oh, cool! I didn't realize you were flying. I remember seeing a thread hinting at it a while back. I'm an instrument rated commercial pilot. Not by trade, just a fun hobby. Keep at it... even if you don't end up in aviation professionally, having your license can help you in a lot of ways. What have you been flying?

Instrument isn't "fun" per se, but extremely rewarding. Good luck!

No idea, you stop looking at the speedo when you get on track. The speed limit is all what the tires can handle, which is something you feel. It should show in the video though.

I just watched the video. Holy dorifto, batman! That's why wet track days are great; I noticed you getting smoother and a little less frantic on the wheel throughout the video. Great driving, and good job keeping the wheel in your direction of motion when you went off. I can't wait until the weather here gets better!

You can see from the speedometer it's around 35-40 mph'ish.

I've been flying my father's 172N, on lease-back with the flight school I study with. Very rough in appearances, but it flies fantastically. My goal is to be a CFI by the start of my Sophomore year in college (I'll be a Freshman in fall). I'm deciding between Embry-Riddle Prescott (w/ $14k scholarship) and LeTourneau (Longview, TX w/ $16k scholarship) studying Aeronautical, and Mechanical Engineering, respectively. It's possible I'd end-up in your neck of the woods...

Very cool! I learned on 172s as well. I lived in NJ for the first 30 years of my life and have lived in TX for 2 years. Don't regret the move one bit. Texas rocks, except in August.

Bring your car. And head out to Motorsport Ranch!!
