The B4 is essentially a great OEM replacement. I forgot how well my 135i drove when it was brand new... For a lot of you who are higher mileage and haven't refreshed your suspension bits, I'd highly recommend considering the B4 Sports for your 128i or "regular" B4 for 135i. Regular B4 for 135i because there is only one version of the B4 part number for 135i in Bilsteins catalogue. This is already the "sport" even though there's only one part number as ALL 135i's came with M-Sport suspension. LMK if you want more clarity here. Perhaps, my explanation is no good as I typed this up in a storm. |

First electronic mods for me courtesy of Bimmergeeks Protools
Ediff disengaged ALL the brake nannies disengaged In combination with the recent Wavetrac, it should feel like a different machine at the next event!

So today I almost finished the e brake handle in forged carbon & aferre seeing how good it's coming along I decided to take out all the interior trim to do the same. Tomorrow I'll be doing the interior pieces, also my e brake handle & steering wheel should be done.

Big service today. Oil and coolant changed, belt system replaced (belt, tensioner, and pulley), power steering fluid changed and reservoir replaced. While the oil and coolant were drained, changed out the OFHG. Good timing on that - there was no visible leakage, but once the housing was out I could see it was seeping at the very bottom, onto the alternator bracket.
One odd thing to watch out for - I have a nice set of impact e-torx sockets, so I tried to use one to remove the belt tensioner bolt. Turns out, those impact sockets have a deep "cup" before the splines start that engage the bolt head. So even with it fully seated, it stripped the corners of the bolt head. I was able to use an 11mm 12pt socket to get the bolt out, but I went to Home Depot and bought a non-impact socket e-torx socket to put the new bolt back in. Other thing was me being a dummy. I have 4-post lift, but figured it would be easier to do this with the car on regular ramps (the lift posts get in the way). Easy enough to change the oil that way, but I didn't realize the belly pan has to come off to drain the coolant - not the case in my 3-series (it has an access hole). That thing is a @#$@!$#@#@ to get off with the car only on ramps - not enough room to get to the screws at the back easily. But I managed. Put it on the lift to put it back ON though! Next weekend, I'm going to change the super dusty pads for ceramics and flush the brakes and change the diff fluid. Also install the cabin air filter I forgot to order that is winging it's way to me. Then she will be ready to head 1600 miles southwest to her new home at my place in FL.

Third brake light lens fully detached from the housing. Surprised to find out the light still glows red even without the lens. I guess the bulbs inside are actually red. First replacement under my ownership.
Also did some work on the incredibly faded air vents. Tried various cleaners and protectants. Tire shine made the biggest difference! |

Installed a three stage intake manifold this past weekend and was able to upload a Turner tune today. Very happy to report no major issues with the install, tune upload, and no CELs afterwards or anything else concerning. Took it for a quick drive and I am very happy with the first impression! Can't wait to get some more time driving with it - kind of makes me long for my now non-existent pre-Covid daily commute.
Oh, also replaced the cabin air filter.

Bought it, brought it home, and did the golf tee thing. The hose doesn't need to be left hanging there, or tied off to something...it will slide back into the grommet in the trunk (boot) floor.

Went to a Cars and Coffee in Newington, NH this morning. Nice 100mi roundtrip with my brother, top down going home. Absolutely insane turnout - I had no idea. had to be 3000+ cars or more. It covered one half of the parking lot of a good sized mall. We were there for a couple hours and only managed half the parking lot.
Saw one other 1-series - a blue on brown coupe. Countless 3-series. And about everything else you could imagine, and several things I had never seen before in person, like a Ford RS-200 and a VW Golf Country 4x4. My meathead brother was tripping over his tongue at all the muscle cars. And a supposedly original NYC Dodge Reliant cop car with NH plates "Bacon"! Not too many high speed pursuits in Manhattan, I guess. This one was the last of the season - I will definitely attend a few more next summer. The C&Cs up here in Portland were cancelled due to the pandemic, but the turnout is usually 100 cars max. I just wore a mask and stayed away from other people as best I could.

Drove it for the first time after being out of town for 7 weeks.
After driving rentals and my father's Camry, it felt like a F1 car. Or at least how I imagine a F1 car feels .

Thrashed it all weekend at Barber MSP.
My biggest issue with the car was oil temperature. I need to verify that it wasn't the engine power reduction for brake heat but I think it was putting me in limp mode for oil temperatures about 2/3 through a session. I'd have to go easy for a half lap or more and then I could go the rest of the session. This happened anywhere from 60F-80F at the track so summer sessions are not feasible until it's sorted out. The limp mode is dangerous on the track. It can happen in the middle of a down shift and the engine will NOT rev match. If you're not paying attention and let the clutch up you'll chirp the rear tires and slow dramatically which can be very bad when someone behind you expects you to be relatively fast through a section. At minimum you'll have to essentially coast through a section and get in good position to let others by while you cool off. Other than that and an issue with something scraping (I think it's the brake dust shield), the car was great. Lots of pad deposits on the rear rotors I think from the e-diff activating, but they go away in a couple turns. They'll also come back randomly (not yet found a pattern). Not sure if this is a DS2500 problem or a DSC issue. The fronts did not develop deposits from what I could tell. I don't think the stock 128i brakes would survive the track even with RBF600 and some upgraded pads. The F30 335i fronts and 328i rears with Ferodo DS2500 did quite well with next to zero fade, but braking is my current weakness so I probably didn't drive them as hard as a more skilled driver. The pedal got quite soft after my first session but I believe I had some air in the DSC system that got out into the brake lines. I will be bleeding this week.

Installed a new LPFP from Precision Raceworks.
Walbro 535. Should be enough for my setup on 93 without having to go with a dual pump/stg3 bucket
