I rented a M3 for a day @Welt...
Hi Gang,
Well... you all know why I went to the Welt today to take the first live photos of the BSM 1M. While I was there I also had some fun... Today I drove a frozen grey M3 DCT that had these red brake calipers. The car is part of the Welt's "BMW on Demand" rental program. costs 34 euros for one hours worth of fun! I was wondering why the car I drove had such a loud exhaust! lol 1er's start at just 14 euros per hour. You can even rent a 7er! Anyone can rent a BMW for an hour at the Welt. BMW offers ALL their models thru this program. It is quite cool. Cost was 34 euros plus 6 euros for the fuel I burned on my 40kms thru the German country side. lol This was my first drive in a M3. And my first experience with DCT. While the DCT shifts so damm fast... I still miss a good old stick. But damm was this car a blast to drive! Things I noticed most were: Steering was super light and not so nice. I prefered my 135i's steering. But everything else just ROCKED! The biggest thing was the cars handling and solidness feel to the ride. Taught and ready to pounce at any minute! While the engine makes more Ho than mine.. unless you really have things boiling over in the high rpms range... I prefer the N54/N55 motor. Makes me yearn for a flash tune for my car! Coming out of the M3 it made me realize how my car really needs a good suspension with m3 bits. I think I am going to go this route. So jealous you got to drive the M3 in Germany! I drove one (for free!) at Oktoberfest in '09 and had the exact same impression you had...love my engine, but love the sound of the M3 and its suspension is phenomenal

Hi Guys,
Here is the website where you can reserve a car @Welt. http://www.bmw-welt.com/web/bmw-welt.../overview.html http://www-1.bmw-welt.com/web_rb/bmw.../overview.html You have to be over 25 years old, have a valid drivers license, passport and credit card. Btw... they put a 780 euro charge on your cc until you bring their car back! Then they charge you 34 euros per hour plus the gas you used - measured by the key fob! I only drove the car like 50 kms - but the gas gauge went down an 1/8th. lol That car was a blast. But a 135i is like 85% of the performance of the M3. On my drive back to the Welt from Garching I came across this little guy... the car had BMW plates(you can tell by the number sequence) and this 135i had a cf rear diffuser and a PE exhaust and FC rear spoiler. But he did not want to play at the lights. Dackel |

Here are two crappy videos I made from my one hour test drive. You guys tell me IF this car sounds louder than normal? I just thought you guys would like to see/hear this beast.
Road test... in the Welt's tieff garage... sorry I was too timid to rev the hell out of that sucker. Dackel |

I drove the same M3 this week, but on the way, back to the WELT, at the red traffic lights, a girl backed into the front of the M3! DAMN!!!
I was happy, that it was only a rental, and not my own car, but it was so sad, to see it!! Last edited by steve79; 03-25-2011 at 09:24 PM.. |

Yea... 18 inch snows! It was still March over here when I test drove that M3! (and it was dam cold outside that day!) Snow tires are required by law(sort of...). You don't need them... but IF you get in accident and it is colder outside than 7' C - YOU WILL be held at fault by the Polizei. Even IF the accident was not your fault. You get a ticket plus points too. Welcome to DE.
So... everyone buys snow tires. Even on rental cars at the Welt. Btw... this past weekend when I was at the Welt... B<W has two new M3's for thier "BMW's on Demand" program. I was poking around to see IF they got any 1M's yet for that program. I was told soon they will have two 1M's for this hourly rental program at the Welt. Dackel |

Not one 1M, but TWO!!
At least that was what I was told by the "BMW on Demand" crew at the Welt. The M3's and M6's have proven to be very popular. I didnot see any M6's this past weekend at the Welt. I did see two e92 M3's though. |

So, can you just walk up and rent or do you have to do it online?

No walk in's. You must preregister. See my post #8 for the website url. And... its all in German... sorry. Maybe call up the Welt IF you really want to do this. I know the M3's get booked out weeks in advance. You also must be over 25 years old and have a valid drivers lic and passport and credit card. Calling from the states... 011-49 89 3184-3430.
