Android Based Head Unit

Looking at adding in a nice android based head unit with touch screen and all that fancy stuff so I can run my MHD and JB4 right from the car.

What kits are you guys using sorry if this was posted before.

**Note: I tried one kit before which didn't fit the 1 series so back to square one.**

Thank you in advance,

Look up the Xtrons units for the e82. I've seen a number of people recommend them. I think that's what I'm going to do

So you bought this and it didn't fit?
http://xtrons.com/pa7781bp-7-hd-digi...t-for-bmw.html

Then you did something wrong.
I have it and have for about 6 months now. It fits as it's designed, the same way all the china radios do, over the dash ... vs inside like the factory unit does. It's not an ideal fit but it does the job.

That other one you're looking at is also a china radio, few generations older though. Just with updated software.

I've read that these Xtron units don't work if you have the Professional Hi-Fi audio system. Something about the amps.

I thought it was just if you had logic7 sound but I could be wrong. It would be nice if someone could confirm.

Was looking at them but most people that have installed them have done it on NON Harmon Kardon equipped cars.

I would most likely do it if it supported the Harmon Kardon system.

I have a 2012 135i coupe with factory amp but no nav. I'm putting in a Joying 8" single DIN Android 8.0:
https://www.ebay.com/itm/Joying-Newe...B/332500447559

With a Best Kits BKBMW3 dash kit and PAC RadioPRO RP4.2-BM21 smart harness.

I did a test fit and it fits fine. Doing the wiring today.

Were you able to get the wiring done? If so, how difficult was it? I just bought my 128i today.

Yes it was easy and this was the first time I've ever done this. I'll probably do a full write up thread later. The unit is great with Android 8.0, full Google Maps, 'Ok Google' voice recognition, etc.

The reason I chose this single DIN over a double DIN was because I wanted the screen to be placed as high as possible without covering the air vents. Also, double DIN dash kits may require some cutting of the plastic behind the dash.

Yeah, Logic 7 = "Professional" = HK System.
I don't think there is a level between Logic 7 and base audio systems. I could be wrong tho.

And you retained the function of the subs under your seats? Door/seatbelt chimes are still normal levels with the stereo up?

Yes all the speakers work including the under-seat subs.

However, there was a problem with the chimes due to the PAC RadioPRO smart harness. It's meant to connect to the chime speaker in the kick panel above the pedals. When I did that, I did get the chimes at normal volume levels, but my Park Distance Control stopped working and there was also an intermittent beep every couple of minutes or so (might be indicating a system error). So I disconnected the speaker because it was getting annoying.

Good to know. Thanks!

The attached file is a good summary of 1 series audio options through 2011. I think 2012 and 2013 have the same options as 2011. Note that the base system is different for 2008/2009 versus the later models.

But the top level system, for all years, has the signals converted to optical. That could make aftermarket systems significantly more complicated. That technology is common to other bimmers, however, so good input may be available on the 3 series forum (or others).
