Canada gets the good stuff

Ready to be pissed off? Take a look at this list of ZSP equipment from the Canada Ordering Guide.

M Sport Package
(135i Coupé only)
  • 18” M Double Spoke alloy wheels – Style 261M, with mixed width performance run-flat tires
  • Anthracite roof liner
  • M Sport steering wheel
  • M entry sill, driver foot rest and gearshift knob (with manual transmission)
  • High-gloss shadow line
  • Available with complete Paint, Upholstery & Trim or additionally with exclusive M equipment:
  • LeMans Blue metallic paint
  • Aluminum Glacier Silver interior trim

Seriously, this sucks. Why does BMW not make this equipment available in the States? What would it cost them? The only upside I can see is that it will be easier to import the 261M wheels.

Dont worry. We will pay through the nose for it. The reason for this is they are giving us more but keeping the prices relateively high compared to USA. Same goes for Audi. The S5 is loaded in canada but the price doesnt change.

It is not too bad as long as they have some decent finance rates.

The only thing that would be "hard" would be the headliner and obviously the LeMans blue. The rest could easily be fitted to a US spec car.

It's really interesting to see the marketing gears turning, though.

"Yes, Canada, we're going to screw you on the price, but look at the options we're giving you as compared to the Yanks!"

"Look at these outrageous prices, America... half what the Euros are paying! Oh, sorry, we can only build it this way for you. Did we mention the prices, though?!"

As if the wheels, paint, and sunroof aren't all sitting there on the very same assembly line for every 1er built. Gotta love the immediacy and global reach of the 'net, which makes this so transparent these days.

Canada and US should be treated as the same market as far as MSRP goes. The variable should be addressed through destination charges and PDI.

Wow, now I have to completely rethink my config for the Canadian options. A lot more freedom to mix up options. Not that I'm complaining, I love this stuff!

Anth roofliner and 261Ms - BMW Canada was answering my prayers (sorry mates in the US...)

Now just get the bmw.ca configurator up and running and it'll be a super Christmas.

While in one sense it's nice to see these Canada-only configuration changes, it definitely portends some seriously bad news price-wise. We are once again about to get shafted up here.

But at least a big yahoo is in order for one thing - NO MANDATORY SUNROOF!!

BTW... If I get a 135i with the sports package I will definitely be looking to get rid of/swap out the 261Ms!

If so, you'll have plenty of takers around these parts.
