M Power Tour - Los Angeles Area
I attended the M Power Tour today in Newbury Park, CA which is northwest of Los Angeles but very near to where I live. It was a neat little experience and I was able to snap some nice pictures of the various M models including the new X5M and the X6M which, according to BMW, was the first public showing outside of an auto show.
We were able to drive the various M3's without supervision over a suggested route for about 20-25 minutes. I ended up with the M coupe and mine, like each of the others had the new dual clutch transmission. I found the M3 to drive "smaller" than my wife's 335i and the growl of the engine was wonderful to hear. The dual clutch is WAY better than the old SMG that I've experienced before in the older M3 and the M5/M6. It's more immediate and shifts much, much faster. I also liked the adjustable suspension - that came in handy on some broken pavement. But enough of all this... onto the pictures!

And here's a bonus M1 picture from outside the BMW museum.

If it was the one in the second parking spot from the pavilion, then yes, that was me.

I got invited to this show also. My mom got the invitation and gave it to me on Sunday at 3pm. 20 minutes before I had to leave to go the lakers game. I really wanted to see the M racecars. I'm not old enough to test drive the M3.

Hi Former,
Sorry I didn't see you there, but thanks for posting the pics. I had a great time! After the test drive I had the opportunity to speak with Chris Chapman inside the Designworks Studio. He shared with me some of the design ideas behind ideas behind the 1 series and Z4. I enjoyed it as much as the drive. jzhang, That may have been my montego 135, especially if it needed a wash real bad. I was there at 12:30. I remember seeing a couple of guys with serious camera equipment shooting the M3 and M1 racecars. Were you one of them? run |

Thanks for the pics. I will say the front end of the X5/X6 are horrible and look tacky. Looks like a bad aftermarket bodykit.

Thanks for the... well, thanks. I figured that I owed it to the forum to share for those who didn't get invited or couldn't make it.
BMW is great with these types of events. They really continue to stoke the enthusiast soul. jzhang - I was there between 10:30 and Noon, so it may have been me. Maybe not though. RunNGun - Did they mention anything about the future 1 series? Since several folks have mentioned they like that X6M, I present my remaining pictures, and good naturedly wonder at your lack of sense.

No, Chris didn't discuss any of their future products. Closest statement he made was only that the studio has to submit proposals just like any outside design studio even though they are part of the BMW Group.
