Non-RFT Spare Tire Poll

For those of you who have gotten away from your RFTs, pick your poison.

I don't carry anything around town, but on road trips I have a compressor, patch kit and really good towing/roadside assistance insurance.

I just bring along my compressor that I use at autox and a can of fix a flat. Haven't had to use it yet.

It's about the size of a small purse

I bought it when I had my FJ Cruiser, and it's pretty small. It'll fit in the side area behind the cargo net in the trunk, and only weighs about 10 lbs. It works really well, and hooks up to the battery terminals (either under the hood or on the battery itself). There are a ton of options out there. This is the exact one I have, it comes in a nice storage bag too:

I use Continental's compressor/sealant system from Tire Rack. It is a high quality kit.

I'm living life on the edge. I've been driving on regular tyres without a spare for almost a year now. I've got a spare set of rubber at home though.

When I put my winters on I will be without RFT's and will not carry a spare. Might grab a can of fix-a-flat but mostly will be pressing the SOS button if I get a flat for a tow and stealing my wife's vehicle if need be.

When I put my winters on (next month) I will still have RFT's. Both my summers AND winters are RFT. I carry this spare bc I just did not want to be stranded somewhere in the boonies w/o a spare.

Bought a jack and mobility kit for the car in-town (have had one flat). Bought a spare for road-trips (just had a flat, 2,000km from home two weeks ago).

All have come in handy.

Contrary to BMW's plan, I will not drive on a run-flat tire when it's flat. But, happily, they're now bald (after our recent 5,200km road trip to Yellowstone, Grand Teton, Canyonlands, and Arches National Parks plus time in Colorado in September followed by a local autoslalom at the end of September) so we're finally rid of them this weekend.

Cool Space Saver Spare in search of Cover!

Summer tires- about to come off are factory 18 inch 35 series staggered Potenza run flats- so-so on the performance- not great on wet windy roads.
Winter tires-17 inch Dunlap 3D studless snow- supposed to be decent for wet, some ice and light snow- lol I do not expect them to perform as well as my Hakkapelita studded did on the former car (Volvo 850), which was a champ- even in 6 inches of unplowed snow in Portland where they do not know how to drive a snowplow

Spare-
-Just received a space saver spare from Carerra Plus in Bend, Oregon- they specialize in both race and street setup. This is the same as the space saver BMW used to offer that is now discontinued. I have the black steel 17" wheel with the Continental T-125 80 R17 tire.

I am in search of a good quality vinyl cover for this and have had no luck. If anyone has suggestions they would be much appreciated. The dimensions of the mounted spare are 23 & 1/2 " by 5 and 1/2" Please PM me if you know where I can find a cover for this.

Yo Cuz...how do you like the mobility kit. I was thinking of getting it since I'm going to non-RFT's soon. Did you get the one that's for the 1? I was told it fits neatly into that space next to the battery? You ever try putting it there?

Yo Han....i can not comment on it, have not use it yet(knocks on wood) The Mobility Kit is not Series 1,3,5,7 specific(at least that i know of) Got it from TisherBMW. I have heard that it fits.........However, until i see BMW factory pictures of how its situated. Its gonna remain in that case in the rear corner of my car. Now, does anyone have a close up pic of how it sits in the battery area.........?
Cheers

Around town a flat isn't going to be that big a deal really.

On long road trips (500+ miles) I'll pop the stock wheels/run flats back on.
