Ahem, attempting to get this thread back on track.

I ordered a 335i rather than a 135i, but I agree entirely with your reasons for getting a 128i. Frankly, if I didn't live at such a high altitude the 328i would have been perfect.

I drove an E46 M3 for years, so I can appreciate a fast car. The problem is, I like to 'work' for my speed a little, keeping a car in its powerband and rowing through the gears often to keep the car in the torque sweet-spot. My E30 is awesome for this, and actually the E46 M3 was too; it was fast, but you did have to work for it a little bit due to the lack of low-end grunt.

The 335i / 135i on the other hand; the power is just a little too easy for my tastes. If I could have got the 328i without being down 25%+ on power due to altitude, I would have in a heartbeat.

Enjoy your car when it arrives. But...stay off the gravel.

Excellent point. I remember when Road & Track tested the first 6 cylinder Z3 (189hp) and commented that the 140hp 4 banger was (in some ways) a better balanced car as well as being more enjoyable for the proficient driver for that very reason.

Semantics aside, are you disputing the accuracy of this statement?
You are not too bright are you? Or you don't read that well?? :iono:

To address your question first. I AM NOT DISPUTING YOUR STATEMENT ABOVE. I AGREE WITH IT.

As I have already said twice in the last 2 pages, I disagree with THIS QUOTE:

What is wrong with you? Why can you NOT follow a basic thread. I'm sure all the other members on here have been able to follow the basic sequence of this thread with little problem.

Sorry but I can't deal with ignorance or stupidity. And you suffer from both I'm afraid. I can't help you mate I'm sorry. I'm done.

Hey champ, enough with the elementary school superlatives, grow up! It's you who can't follow the basic sequence of a thread. I addressed the 'windy roads' issue above with the following quote:

Issue closed. Let's move on... or would you like to hurl a few more playground yard insults my way?

wow; and all this time i've been trying to figure out why the bmws would be less susceptible to the effect of wind (as in moving air):iono:; and then it finally hit me: it's "windy" as in a road that winds, not to be confused, of course, with a WINDING road.

I was over the 1er, and now I'm back...

Headed back to school, I need a car with No maintenance, and no warranty concerns. I'm currently in an `03 ZHP, her CPO and Prepaid Maintenance run out 04/09. Here are her spec's vs 128i...

230hp vs ZHP's 235
200tq vs ZHP's 222
3494lbs vs ZHP's 3370

Slightly slower, but should deliver similar spirited driving experiences. Yes, I do enjoy auto-x a few times a year, but usually vacation, work, or other conflicts occur, really limiting my auto-x events.

I had built one up (128i) with options I "thought" I needed, but I'm starting to think like you, sport and USB, done. Maybe not even USB if I can buy it and install it on my own. Sure I'll miss my ZHP's heated leather seating, bi-xenon's and navigation system, but my focus needs to be school. I'll most likely lease the same time I'm projected to be in school (36-48 months)...

I like the idea of a white 128i sport with the tag PRE DDS...

Could change my mind tomorrow though, I don't start school until January...

128i is a perfectly balanced car (more so than the 135i). Can't say the same about MINI or VW.

There's nothing in this class that offers the same.

Relative to 135i, dollar wise it's greater value. Of course, it's hard to assign value to the fun factor, but at 3252 lbs, I think 128i will be one vehicle with high fun/$ ratio.

That's the one for me. Do it, Imola!

Just finalized it: Montego, sport, iPod and xenons. I added the lights mainly with an eye toward future resale value. ED sticker is $30,250. Since I am going to Germany in September anyway might as well go for the $2K discount

Just picked up my 128i convert. First really wanted a convert, some options, and wanted to not have to take out a second mtge.
Read the reviews, checked out the costs for both. Bottom line...you can get a ticket with either model very easily. Is 2 seconds 0-60 worth the extra bucks? Not for me anyway.
btw, my friend has an s2000 and is thinking of selling it and getting the 135 but hes a speed freak. Shoot even with the steptronic this car rocks, any faster it would surely get me in trouble.

I bought a 128i because I couldn't afford the 135i. Then again, even if I could have, I probably would have bought a different car. There's something cool about getting these cars close to $30K, not 40K, which is where you end up if you add any options to the 135i. I'm sure the speed on those 135s is awesome, though. Cool car either way.

I actually wish they would offer the 128i with the same exact body, wheels, etc. without the turbo's and massive brakes for $4k less. I really love my 2.0 liter 197hp Si engine that cranks at 8,000 rpm's. I just want a little more hp and much more torque. I think the 230hp 200tq with a 6sp manual would be plenty fast. Plus you can actually rev the car without going into Warp speeds.

I can't believe I am actually saying this. I am a POWER person. My last car was the Acura TL-S with an auto and 286hp. The reason I got rid of it was the boring automatic trans. It was about as fast as a 128i with a manual would be. But much more fun and RWD. And I know its a BMW. 50/50 Balance. I think I will test drive both b4 just ordering a 135i manual.

I really don't know what to do now. Today I looked at an Alpine white 128i with the sport pkg. heated seats, iPod/USB, black leatherette with gloss black int trim, AND an automatic. It was $32k. WOW if it only had a stick and Zenon lights I might of just said "Write her up, I'll take it".

I am starting to think the 135i manual might be too dam fast.
