"Halo" light burnt!
I started my car this morning and a warning lit up on my display. Unfortunately the passenger side "halo" light blew out  . After thumbing through the owner's manual I thought replacing the bulb would be an easy DIY fix but the darn cover that hides the bulbs in the light assembly is a pain to remove! After about an hour of contemplating on how to remove the the cover panel I lost my patience and gave up. I guess I'll be paying a visit to my local BMW service dept. first thing tomorrow morning. Hopefully I can have them fix the notorius b-pillar seat belt rattle as well.

Dude, that sucks! You definately can not cruise in style with one halo burnt out. Here's hoping for a speedy fix.

when you take it to the dealer, make sure you find out!!!
i would like to see the halo's with a more "cooler" white/blue rather than the "warm" yellows anyhow. good luck!

Wouldn't you have to take apart the whole light unit to reach the halos? And several people here have already tried to bake the headlights to take them apart and apparently nobody has been successful in getting them apart.
Good thing is ure dealer will just replace your entire headlight unit since car is still under warranty |

No they wont. There is a bulb for the halos, the bulb is located in a plastic housing underneath the headlight assembly. Chances are the dealer wont replace it under warranty and charge an arm and a leg to take of the bumper to get to the light.

I went to the dealer today and unfortunately the service dept was very busy and they were unable to inspect the malfuntioning halos. According to the service rep. I was the first E90 to experience any problems with the halo lights. I asked if they can at least inspect the bulb if it was burnt out. The rep then consulted with a tech and I was told that "because you're the first 3 series owner with malfuntioning halo lights we suggest that you schedule for an appointment so that we can further diagnose the problem and determine if there are any electrical issues". Wow! I can even get them to inspect the bulb on the spot......must be a true pain in the a$$ to access. Needless to say I scheduled an appointment for next week.

To access the bulb, jack up the front of the car on the side where the headlight needs to be accessed. Inside the plastic wheel liner, there is a flap door that opens, open it and you can access the underside of the headlight.
Im assuming that you didnt know this; not sure what the owners manual states. |

I just dropped my car off at the dealer this morning. Ironically, when I started my car yesterday morning I noticed that the warning indicator on the dash wasn't lit. So I inspected the lights and the "halo's" were working! Nevertheless I sent my car today to have it inspected for possible loose connections or electrical problems. To my surprise the service rep told me that there was a recall on the 3 series. It involved issues with the ecu programming and transmission. Needless to say I had them resolve those issues (I've never had any to begin with). According to the rep "reprogramming the ecu can take up to 4-6 hours. So in the mean time I'm cruising around in a courtesy loaner Mitsu Lancer that wreaks of smoke!
