Question Stock vs Mods

Being very new to the 1er owner group I have been reading a bunch and I have a question. What number of 1er owners do some type of performance mod to their car?

I would recommend driving the car for a few before immediately jumping into modifying. That said, there are a goodly many of us that have tinkered something.

+1 to the idea of running stock for a while and getting to know your 1ers personality and idiosyncrasies before modding. This period of time is great for getting your preventative maintenance fully up to date- always a good idea before modding, especially with an n54.

If you're considering tuning, I'd encourage getting a cable and MHD with the logging license so you can verify the engine is healthy and be sure things like the coil packs & injectors are well behaved. Then at any time later you can simply pick up a map pack and within the hour add quite a bump in performance without turning a wrench.

After that it's all down hill.... as far and as fast as your goals & wallet will take you

True dat.

And do the suspension before engine because it's what the car needs the most.

Even if people love 100% stock, I still push for CDV delete and clutch stop. OEM+!!!

Otherwise go FBO and let er rip

I hate modding BMW's. To me it's like making changes to a Ferrari. Don't mess with greatness. Go buy a honda civic or something.

I don't think I could ever leave a vehicle 100% stock. Maybe its a sickness.

I don't think there's a car I haven't "modded" in a long time. Some things I don't really consider mods but have changed:
Black grilles
35% tint
Michelin A/S3+ 225/40-18 and 255/35-18 tires

Only performance mod is the Dinan S2 tune.

Yup. Drive it for a few years. I did not start modding until after 50K. My mods are mild compared to some. I like the way it is now. I have nothing new planned except for maybe The BMW Performance exhaust. My mods in my sig.

Greatness and stock 135i don't exist on the same planet. 128i with perf kit maybe.

Even if you like 100% stock, blowing plastic chargepipes will get old

I'm not surprised to see the results leaning the way that they are. I think forum members are maybe more predisposed to modify their cars than your average owner.

If BMWs couldn't be improved, ///M wouldn't exist.

these cars are pretty boring the way they are, I would have dumped mine long ago for an M3 if I was not inclined to modify

Do you have pictures of your car on this site?
I'd like to take a look.
