Also the N52 engine changes a lot with time (break in), I have seen a significant improvement after 2000 miles

I'm getting around 25 mpg in my 128. I notice my gas mileage is getting better as I put more miles on it. I was only getting around 22 mpg when I first got it. My driving is around 90% stop and go, I rarely take it on the highway.

I drive a 130i, got it used recently. The PO had averaged 12.5L/100km (18-19MPG), I've been averaging 9.9L/100km (about 24MPG) in mainly urban driving, and a little highway for the 1500km (nearly 1000miles) I've had it - all according to the OBC.
PO must've been really fat... and had a lead foot. haha |

Im thinking some definitions of "urban" or "city" driving in this thread are skewed. Or, at least, a little more flexible than I will consider. Roads with 45 mph speed limits with decently long stretches before lights aren't very urban.
I drive my DD 135 to work, and I have stop lights about every .25 to .5 miles. I race everything out there. Sports cars, minivans, bikes, pedestrians, that stray dog. I hate everyone/everything else on the road. I'm in a constant rage on the way to work because everyone else driving here doesn't know what blinkers are, how to properly(?) travel the wrong direction down the road, what a red light means, or which lane to be slow in, or even how to yield. So, with all that considering, I get about 17 mpg if I care about economy some days. About 14-15mpg if I feel like smashing the 28th mustang GT that revs at me that particular morning. Running with JB3 (map 5), Berk axel back, meth kit, CAIs. |

Just completed a 3000 mile trip on I95 in my stripped 2012 128i. Raised my everyday mileage from 23.2 to 25.8.That won't last long though.
Car was magnificent on the highway. Car now has 5300 miles. |

With about 75% highway and back road touring and using corrected odometer and OBC figures, my '08 MT 128i cabrio has averaged 27.9 mpg ( on 91/93 octane fuel) over 35,000 miles with a high of 33.0 and a low of 21.2.

Traffic lights will KILL your mpg. When I had a mostly highway commute to work, I was averaging 29 mpg. Now my morning drive features no less than twenty-seven traffic lights and I'm getting 21 or 22.

Displayed avg 27.6 pretty steady. 70% Highway with the frequently/occasional spirited driving/ hammered throttle. Stage 1 tune
If driven as nice as I can I will get 31-32 max at highway speeds. Usually get 29 normal highway

Sounds like I'm the big loser here so far at 14.8 in town without hammering it. Can't fathom how some of you guys with similar conditions and more spirited driving styles are getting 17/18 - 22. What is the alchemy when they build these cars that makes them behave so differently?

He uses e85 for the higher octane so he can run high boost. Doing a 87/93 mix would have the opposite effect and would be a terrible thing to to for him. E85 is corrosive and will eat away at our injectors over time and it is complete and utter bs that our government subsides corm based ethanol and shoves it down into our fuel. Corn is the least efficient method of making ethanol and creates more pollution then gasoline. This is one great example of our government being corrupt. There is absolutely no good reason for corb based ethanol and not being able to make it out of sugar cane if you do want to use it for high octane race full. Just made to make corporate farms and Monsanto rich. The guy that is in charge of regulating food is a major owner and I believe on the board of Monsanto which in my opinion is as close as we have to an evil corporation. Okay, rant over.
