No it's not that bad.

1. The halogens (nearest the grill) come on for flashing and high beam only.

2. The xenons (furthest from the grill) are dipped by a shutter for low beam and the shutter 'clicks' open for high beam.

Like someone said, stop your engine and try it, you should hear the 'clack' sound from low to high beam of the shutter moving.

I tested and no clack sound and no xenon beaming high. Maybe there are older or variant of xenon that doesn't do this?

Havent' gone to the dealer yet. FYI the xenon is installed after I bought the car, which comes with standard halogen. So the dealer must have missed some steps in installing it.

Thanks for all the information.

You should have said this in the beginning

It could be a number of things

Things like, did they install the correct retrofit wiring, did they change the light control module and footwell module, did they programme the car properly

"Clack" now that was the word I was searching for at the time. Yes, it definitely "clacks"

I love Xenons :-)

I can get evil when other people are driving with thier bright-lights on...they have no idea of the power of mine. *Mysterious Evil Laugh*

Went to the dealer and the software feature responsible for it was not installed. They are going to install it next week.

Contrary to what people have said in this forum, however, they say that the xenon will move upward instead of a cover being moved away to let the xenon beam high.

For flashing, just the halogens will turn on.

Well according to ZKW who make the headlights : "Projection system with gas discharge lamp for low and upper beam. Changeover between low and upper beam is by a flexible ray aperture actuated by an electric lifting magnet.

A characteristic (and patented) feature of ZKW, the ray aperture is designed as a pretensioned spring"

i dunno if this was answered or not.

but there is a mechanism inside the projector that moves up and down. for example if you have ur xenon lights on the lever is down ( id unno if its actually up or down). so that the xenon lights are aimed lower. when flcik the highbeam switch, those highbeam halogens go on AND that lever moves up too so that the xenons are aimed higher.

sorry if this has been said already,

mike

I don't understand, I had bi-xenons on my Volvo S40 and they were good for flashing as well, meaning, there were no halogens involved.

I need to do some more testing on mine, I just got the car yesterday.

I came across this thread and tried the highbeam thing when I home from work. I don't know if this is normal or not but when i pull the lever back towards me, the highbeams xenon come on if i hold the lever, as if im flashing the xenon. When i let go, the headlights go back to their original position. My friend was standing in front of the car and he confirmed that he heard the "Clack" sound and the xenons became the highbeams. The inner lenses (toward the grill) didn't flash the high beam. I looked through the manual and it also confirmed that when you pull the lever toward yourself, it suppose to be "headlamp flasher".

When i push the lever away from myself, the xenon high beams come on and stay on when I let go of the lever. I think this is normal.

The only time my inner lenses light up is when i have it on adaptive headlights and I either indicate or turn the steering wheel to the left or right. I believe this is for assisting you when turning sharply in the dark.

Can anyone confirm the first part though? Should the halogens come on when you pull the lever toward you or should you hear the "clack" sound and the highbeam xenon's flash?

I have an 07 e92 335.

Thanks for your help.

Did you ever get this sorted? My e92 Coupe (UK Spec) has Xenons but no adaptive driving and the inner lamp dose not come on at all, which seems a bit of a waste! I do however get a high beam from the xenon via a shutter or aperture opening and closing making the light brighter.

E92 and E93 do not have halogen hi beams. They only have Bi-Xenon. The inner light is used as a cornering light.
BTW most Bi-Xenon will move the shutter when flashing the brights but the xenon part is not lighted for flashing except on the E92/E93.
