Tuning options for the 125i/128i
So I jumped on the German 1 Series forum, http://www.1erforum.de, and posted a thread asking what the 125i owners had done from a tuning perspective, and what options were available in Europe. As you'll see, I've had one response so far, but I also received a PM from Marcel at MS Tuning (below). Can anyone offer any insight into MS Tuning, or any thoughts regarding their offering?
Good morning, I read you via PM when i want to make no public advertising. The only thing really makes sense when 25i is to optimize the engine software. The N52N is a throttled 30i, Which means that he goes to entdrosseln only about the software in the ecu is throttled on the Valvetronic valve lift. The 25i is then about 265 HP-matches between more than 270 + HP and +55 NM. You can send me your controller (ecu-dme), then i can make abaot entdosselung bdm for you to send you your controller. Here's my HP: www.ms-chiptuning.de . Whit me you need not worry, I'am a specialist for BMW, in Germany there is a lot to find tuner chip, but a real good is very difficult. Would love to hear from you, and excuse my bad english. http://www.ms-chiptuning.de/bmw/125i-218ps30s2.html Best regards, Marcel Stefanescu MS tuning

1 other point, if it's just a set tune they load, the website shows the standard power as 163kw, whereas i'm pretty sure ours are only 160kw, maybe the German 125i is slightly different to the Aussie version? Would be a pity if the tune didn't work well.. not much help if you send you ecu to them as they can't dyno to ensure it's all ok.
The lack of availability of an upgrade from 125 to 130 grunt is a bummer. Trouble with the 125 is it's not a 135.. hehe.

He said the tune is for a N52N which is in all the 09 and up 128i's so I would guess it would work. How much is this tune and I would be more interested in a tune done remotely using a cable from my laptop and ODBII port as there is a company developing this as we speak.

Holy SHIT!!! Nevermind! 40-50whp, maybe, but for that much HP, I don't think so. It may be convenient, but that's way to expensive!

We only use average gains based on solid baseline runs vs average post runs, not a cold baseline and maximum top. We don't inflate figures, those are real HP. Gains are equivalent to what you receive from an E46 M3 tune. Check out some of the reviews from customers of that tune that received the same power and improvements to the drivability/responsiveness of the engine: http://www.m3forum.net/m3forum/showt...ghlight=evolve http://www.m3forum.net/m3forum/showt...=evolve+review http://www.m3forum.net/m3forum/showt...=evolve+review http://www.m3forum.net/m3forum/showt...=evolve+review http://www.m3forum.net/m3forum/showt...=evolve+review http://www.m3forum.net/m3forum/showt...ghlight=evolve http://www.m3forum.net/m3forum/showt...ghlight=evolve The remote tuning device bought separately is $250, so the tuning itself is $500 - which you can have done at a dealer for that price if you chose not to have the evolve-R. The gains are real and strong for an NA engine with no other modifications, and we believe the pricing is competitive taking into account the fact you also receive a remote tuning device that also can read and clear DTC's, and we are building in datalogging also. |

We've had a few on our dyno - though we've yet to see any that show up any real gains yet. Not all intakes are created equal though, so would be interested to see if any did help. In terms of tuning, intakes won't ever make enough difference to warrant custom work - the ECU will adapt to the smaller changes such as those and mufflers, its only when you start removing cats that you need to move to more aggressive maps to take advantage of the improved flow.

125i is easy to re-map (contrary to 128i that is no 100% equal to 130i hardwarewise).
First stage is simply to put power back where it natively belongs (265 HP) and few tuners mastered the process in Europe. Next step is to optimize ECU further and add improved exhaust system (all togethre it yields +30 HP). Latest reserve is replacing cams, valves and increasing volume, what is costly as hell, but achievable in Germany (5000 $). I drove 295 HP 125i and it is different feel all together, with acceleration between 5,5-5,7 s. It is real 135 alternative that saves lot of money in annual taxation in some countries (based on HP). |

Marcel is good, very good at what he does. He has tuned more 1er's than most in Germany. NA's and Turbos.
I posted his 125i/128i tune. He is able to activate the DISA valve in your intake manifold and that is how your Hp(PS) goes up to 270 PS. That is quite good for a NA tune. Almos 130i levels. Here is my write up when I went to Marcel for my tune fir my 135i... Got my car tuned in Germany… http://www.1addicts.com/forums/showthread.php?t=528152 And here is Marcel's 125i tune on a dyno...
