Resonator delete, performance exhaust
Hey guys, I'm thinking about getting the bmw performance exhaust and I'm wondering if I need to do a resonator delete for the best sound. Also does, the y-pipe come with the exhaust? Thanks!

Although the 135i Performance exhaust includes a y-pipe, the 128i exhaust is just the muffler. I don't know anything about resonator deletes, but I think the Performance exhaust sounds quite good when fitted as intended (resonator intact). YMMV.

IIRC a resonator is in place to reduce drone when the cats are removed, so you wouldn't want to remove a resonator. That being said, Bimmer-Bob is correct in that for the 128i, we only get the muffler so there is no resonator in that. 135i's have a lot more options for their exhausts and I think we have few if any options for mid-pipes or the such as our stock exhaust is composed of one piece whereas the 135i exhaust is two pieces mid-pipes and muffler

Yeah, my wife's 128i M-Sport convertible is due in this week and I pre-purchased (at a discount, thanks to BMWCCA and my dealer) a BMW Perf Exhaust for it. I'm leaving the resonator in place to eliminate droning - my older E46s had aftermarket exhausts as well, and they sounded great with the resonator intact. I knew a few people who removed theirs and quickly added them back due to the awful droning at highway speeds.

Don't even worry about the resonator...the 128i is a stitch to drive and hear with the BMW PE installed. Great sound, no drone, and just the right [for us] deep growl taking off or cruising. Enjoy....

At the risk of repeating myself, the BMW PE is the most frivolous, expensive, unnecessary purchase that I absolutely love the most.

Has anyone done the performance exhaust and resonator delete combo? I already havemy resonator replaced with a supersprint Y pipe and am just concerned ill add drone by going with the PE. I don't mind it around town but I drive a lot of highway miles. Currently, with my 135i stock exhaust, I have no highway drone or rasp.
Input appreciated! |

The PE for a 128i is just the rear section(no y-pipe, resonator delete like on a 135i PE). It sounds just as good(if not better) than that on a 135i. Its THAT good! I really like the Performance Exhausts on BMW models!!

“This Supersprint section 2 replaces the center resonator in the 128i exhaust. By deleting resonators you can gain a little more volume from the exhaust. This is especially good if you're a fan of the stock exhaust sound and just want to hear more of it” |
