I hate rock chips

I was looking at the front end of my car (the hood) and there are multiple chips. Should I touch these up or just walk around the car no closer than 4-5 ft?

the first time i took the 330 on the highway, i was bombarded by falling debris from 3 open dump trucks who were occupying all three lanes of the highway....dumbasses

I have a few of them since I got my car but I learned to deal with it. They are not really visible on my car so no problems here

You can touch them up but will always come back to hunt you

I hear it isnt much to re-paint the front so thats what I intend to if I have a serious problem.

I seem to get behind or in between every truck known to man. My timing when I hit the highway is always wrong, seems to be around several trucks. Dump trucks, bulldozers, gravel trucks, salt trucks, straw, wood, concrete, and when they hit a big hole in the road, its like getting hailed on    I've wanted to just pull over before!!

Clearbra on the front helps me from getting rock chips. I have yet to have one, and I now have 10k on my car

I have 34 rock chips that I touched up. I had 3 on the A4. Clearbra would not have helped, 2/3 of the chips are above where I would have traced the line (in line with the upper corners of the lights).

I think that the shape of the hood is conducive to chips, the A4 had a much straighter hood, so the front took more of the brunt that the e90, where the front is lower and the hood more inclined (great for aero).

I fill them in as I go along-this way additional degradation is limited. Eventually I supposed I could buff it and render them almost invisible. Until then, my car is full custom.

I've got at least 2 that I've seen. One I got like the 2nd week I got the car home.

I bought the touch-paint and been meaning to do it, but been busy with work and the weather hasn't cooperated.

I would not touch it up unless it's really bad. Touch up paints can make things look worse if you do it unprofessionally. Just leave it for awhile and when it's time, do the whole hood.

I repainted my front end of my old 528, and the detail specialist at BMW told me I shouldn't have done that. He said the paint coming from the factory is always stronger, than what they do at body shops here. In addition, when you go to sell the car, people may think you had a collision and you had to repaint. Course, that was years ago. Now, I just put a clear bra, and you can tell the installer you want to cover a bigger area of the hood than what is standard. I paid like $550 or so for extended coverage (bigger hood area, mirrors, bumper, foglights, etc.) at Aerotec. Haven't had a chip yet (crossing my fingers.)

Well I just washed my car and the problem is much worse than I thought. I have them on the hood, read bumper, near the mirror, etc. The car still looks great from 5ft and further, but as you get closer those nasty chips are there.

Guess I never really cared about any other car as much as my 330. Or maybe its more obvious on silver as my last car was dark green.

5 months on and I don't have chips - however major disappointment yesterday to come back to the car and someone has backed into me with a towbar. Not happy! Minor but still bigger than a stone chip.

Pity others don't respect our cars like we do.

Im sure the sand in the Northeast has something to do with my rock chips. I only notice them when im a few feet from the car (especially during washes).

I wish there was some minor fix I could apply, but I havent heard anything?
