Goodridge Brake Hoses
Here is an image of the Goodridge ss braided brake hose kit for the 135i:
The female end fittings appear to have hexes that are large enough that they won't pass through the mounting brackets, but they lack the keying feature of OE hoses. The key is highly desirable to prevent the hose from becoming twisted during installation. Two wrenches and considerable care will be required to avoid twisting the hoses while tightening the flarenuts. For comparison purposes, here is the OE female end fitting: |

A friend of mine, Rikx1M had these on his old 135i. A quality part from the UK(I believe).

When Goodridge (and it appears quite a few others) consciously deviated from the keyed end fitting design of the OE hoses, they can only have done so for one of the following two reasons: 1) they didn't have a keyed fitting available to them at the time and they figured an un-keyed fitting was good enough, or; 2) they had a keyed fitting available to them and they figured that an un-keyed fitting was a design improvement. I can only speculate, but if 1), they are wrong (because a significant killer of braided hoses is being twisted on installation) and if 2), they are idiots. At least, that is my opinion. I am eager to hear a defence of un-keyed end fittings, if there is one. |

Aside from the different fittings, once installed, i don't think it matters much. They look like quality hoses. My BMS braided steel hoses didn't have the keyed fitting and my BMW tech didn't have any issues installing them. I don't think it shows bad quality, but im sure the non keyed fittings were alot easier to get, cheaper, and helped keep the cost of their kit down so they could sell more of them. Just my opinion.

I picked up a set of Goodridge Phantom Brake Lines (31052BKC) the other day. I appreciate fe1rx's analysis on the brake lines as they have altered what I originally was going to purchase. I took some pictures of the set I've received in case fe1rx or anyone else wants to check them out. Goodridge has two different types of lines available for our cars.

I nearly ordered the black Goodridge lines in the post above. Do you think the clear ones have an advantage to make it easier to inspect the lines for damage? If not I prefer the black ones that are less likely to draw attention from authorities and my insurance company etc. |

I ended up buying a set of Goodridge hoses. The fittings are different from the ones pictured above. I think it may be because the version I bought (KTBW1010-6C) has stainless steel fittings. The supplier told me the Phantom kit is also available with zinc plated fittings which is a less expensive option. I ordered from a local Australian company, Cometition Friction.

Any issues with these lines being slightly too short, akin to another brand of ss brake lines?

They seem ok to me. They are nothing like the pictures of some pictures of some other brand I have seen. The rear line straightens out a bit when the car is on jack stands, but its not to the point causing me concern. I am still curious if there is any difference in fitment between these and the M3/1M brake lines. The Goodridge Phantom kit says its compatible with all 1 series cars including the 1M coupe.

Cannot find it anywhere, and not explicitly listed on you vendor's site ... Hopefully these brake lines are available in North America ...

The Techna-fit hoses are working without any issues. I can't see any reason that they wouldn't fit on later models.

I can't answer your question except to say the version with stainless fittings is listed on the UK application guide from this page: https://www.goodridge.net/after-mark...ication-guides |

Im back here with the same question. Im thinking you must have put some more miles on the techna-fit hoses. Im sure you have put them to the test through proper use and abuse at the track. Do you still like them, and recommend them? I have purchased an RB SS front+rear piston rebuild kit, and think I want to swap the hoses while Im at it ... My two options are: #1: Techna-Fit BMW-1850 #2 Goodridge SBW1010-6C (SS fittings) or SBW1010-6P (Zinc plated fittings)

I suggest not using any hose you can't confirm is keyed before you buy it. Ask them to send you a picture of the fittings before you buy. Techna-Fit is very easy to deal with directly. They stuck my hoses in the mail and they arrived uneventfully. Of course you have exchange rate to deal with, but Techna-Fit's prices are very good and likely will be cheaper than the alternatives, even with shipping and exchange. I suggest calling them directly and speaking with either Stuart Trotter or Chris Herman. I dealt with Chris. http://www.techna-fit.com/contacts.html |
