Alarm for car? factory vs aftermarket

hey guys/gals, just got my 330i the other day and was wondering which is better for the car a factory alarm or aftermarket? Wat type of alarm is everyone using? i heard if you put an aftermarket alarm it will mess with the electrol system of the car? is it true.
thanks

Hey welcome to the forum! Personally, I stuck with the factory alarm. That way, I knew everything would set up right, and the dealer would have to take responsibility if they screwed something up.

Plus, with an aftermarket alarm, I don't know if they could intergrate it into our key fobs, but don't quote me. Also, there is a motion sensor on the ceiling which should have been included in post september models. Mine was a pre september and didn't have this, so the motion sensor didn't work--the holes were filled in, and in order for it to work, they've got to be slotted. So I took it back and luckily they had a 3-er there that had the slotted motion sensor and just swapped it. It took less than five minutes.

Go with the factory alarm...you can't go wrong and it adds that extra piece of mind every time you lock/unlock and you hear that beep.

this is a no brainer. try to find an integrated alarm that can be isntalled for around $500. unless u like lugging around 2 sets of fobs or keys, i suggest u stick with oem.

I dont think you can get around starting the car without the key fob.
Remote start would be a good reason to get something else but you'll have to carry another remote.

If you go with the factory alarm try not to spend more than $500.00 installed.

If you have CA then definitely factory because it'll be integrated. Otherwise, you've wasted your money on CA.

I paid $589 installed.

Could someone tell me more about the BMW dealer installed alarm... in specific:
what functions does it have?
when is the alarm triggered (from vibration outside the car or only upon entry)?
do you need CA in your car?
I've ordered a stock 325i - can be installed in it?

Only reason I don't want to get aftermarket is because I don't want to carry two key fobs.

It's actually not too sensitive for example going off when a truck passes. It has the usual break-in protection stuff. But the main feature is for when the car is lifted (ie the angle of the car tilts).

No you don't need CA.

Yes it can be installed on a stock 325. Why did you think that you can't get it installed on a stock 325? It's a dealer accessory.

Also with the alarm, your clown nose will now blink.

When I got in my wreck last weekend, when I left the car to go across the street, I locked it..

When it was lifted to be towed, the alarm started going off
