LED Angel Eyes

Hello

did anyone use this type of LED angel eyes? I'm worried that I'll have no place for that box with resitor. I have 2006 with xenon headlights.

From what I've read you will need to drill through the cap and mount the resistor outside somewhere. Sealing the cap and all the connections is a concern for this type of design. That's why you should stick with MTEC or LUX. Cost a little more but tried and true.

There is no room on the E90 / E91 of that year. You'd have to drill a hole through the cap and place them wherever you see fit.

If you want a plug and play solution that has no drilling required where everything fits inside there are a few in the vendor section. HPB & Lux to name a few.

Solution

I've just found simple solution, I've took resistor out of the box and put it inside the cooler, this way it will fit with no problem I think.

Not sure that's a good idea.

A resistor has a lot of heat. That box it is in acts as a heat sink.

It needs to be able to dissipate and disperse the heat created.

If it is touching anything it will melt it, including melting it's own wiring.

It needs to be in the box and away from touching anything else so it can disperse heat.

+1 to what Jeff said. The Driver board is separate on those model lights because they create heat which needs to be dissipated with that external housing and fixture. Putting the driver inside the unit will increase the amount of heat because the LED's also generate heat. Thsi wil most likely lead a early failure or potentially melting of components or even electrical issues if the driver is not fused or thermally protected.

Safer overall to go with a known product that is designed specifically for your model car.

I ran into this issue last year with that same type of resistor casing. I ended up making the casing shorter to fit in the housing:

If you put the driver box inside the main headlight housing and then run the cable down into the angel eye bulb area, it will work.

Yep. Basically it fits in the back of that long plastic cap that covers the angel eye bulb. I forget whether it was vertically or horizontally.

Thanks, both bulbs changed, approx. 1cm piece cutted from resistor box and it will fit with no big problems.
