Question Questions before buying re: Maintenance Sch. Reset and Xenon H.L.

Because I live over 250 miles away from the nearest dealer I would prefer to do some of my own maintenance. After the scheduled maintenance expires I will do all of the maintenance work myself. How difficult is it to reset the maintenance computer on my own? Can this be done by punching a combination of buttons, or do the resets need to be done by the dealer. I consider the ability to reset the maintenance schedule a very important feature for me!

Also please describe the color of the Xenon headlights beam vs. the standard headlights. I know in my particular area if I have bright purple headlights more harrassment will come from the Highway Patrol. I can easily picture them giving me a ticket for 5 mph over the speed limit because my purple headlights hurt their eyes. Also, they can pick out a luxury vehicle by the purple headlights (again attracting more tickets).

Thanks.

If your "purple?" headlamp beam hurts the LEO's eyes, what do you think it does to other oncoming motorists? Don't you feel a responsibility to your fellow motorists?

I cannot tell from the ad on the Bimmerzone web site. Has Peake Research released a reset tool for the new line of engines?

I think the OP is showing great responsibility in investigating the color of the lights before his purchase so as to ensure it doesn´t bother anyone and stand out.

Perhaps you are correct. If so, I retract my question. Since the BMW factory installed Xenon hadlamps meet all U S federal and state regulations, I don't think he needs to worry about them, do you? They have been in service for a few years across a fairly wide spectrum of car classes and I think most law enforcement officials are familiar with them and appreciate their precise cut off points and reduced glare, when properly aimed.

No, I don´t think he has to worry. I think many people´s perceptions of Xenon headlamps is colored by the outrageous purple and blue lights people add to their cars. So unless someone has had Xenon before, they mightn´t know the difference between real and Memorex.
