WIERD Occurance with my E90 - Sounded like a car bomb...

I was driving from Chicago to St. Louis. Had a can of sprite in the center armrest console. Twenty miles from my destination the can explodes, it scares the shit out of me. Sprite goes EVERYWHERE! Pulled over and found that inside the console it was BURNING. So apparantly the can got so heated up that it exploded. I also noticed that my iDrive knob was also quite hot. Anyways, I cleaned it up and went on to STL but why the hell did this happen - why does it get so hot there?

I know there's a vent that designed to keep drinks a certain temperature (I don't know if that vent puts hot or cold temp), but in any case the vent was switched off.

Someone please clarify/ advise.

I think the sprite can got excited he was in the E90 cupholder and couldn't stand the pressure, therefore exploded.

Isn´t there a hot/cold switch in the console?

It´s good that only a little Sprite was spilt and it didn´t distract you and cause a greater problem.

It keeps it hot or cold based on the rear passenger's temp control which is just behind the cup holder facing the rear seats.

I would guess that the switch adjacent the cup holder was actually on (switched towards theh back of the car) and you had the rear temp set to hot.

thankyou, that answers my question. I'm sure the manual says something to that extent but im too lazy to read the damn thing.

lol the whole incident was hilarious after it happened though cuz i was driving with my friend (who by the way drives a blue M5 (so jealous)) and so i pulled over suddenly and he came behind me. before even asking if I was okay, he pulls out his camera and starts taking pictures of the mess lol

we had a drag race and my E90 beat his M5 by like a second. I was so excited!! E90 rocks!!

thanks a lot for ur helpful response

p.s. im joking about beating him in case ur bullshit detector didnt go off yet

The sprite was made by al Qaida.

And your friend can't drive.
