ridiculously high fuel consumption on my 335
hey guys,
first ever post here so hoping im using the right forum/platform for it. just bough a 2013 N55 335i E93 with 74,000km couple weeks ago, long story short on the way back home got a fault code reduced power engine. took the car to dealer as soon as i arrived home. car diagnosed with a broken charge pipe, they fitted a new one and all the sensors that come along with it. did their quality control and programming and returned the car to me 3 days ago. since i picked it up the car is swallowing fuel like crazy. average is 18.5l/100km and even when im doing 80km/h while barely touching the pedal, i can only bring it down to around 17l/100km. i noticed that since i got it back, when im in idle after driving a little bit, it goes up to 1000rpm without me touching the gas pedal, and then after 2 seconds goes back to 600-700rpm. car feels a bit sluggish in low revs and as if the noise it makes is not the one it should be. any idea as to what the problem could be?! at the moment, car has no fault codes showing and overall on paper is driving "fine", but im confident there is some issue here which i cant pin point. before the charge pipe broke, car was doing 8.8l/100 km for around 700km of highway driving and around 11.5l/100km on average for 1500km of city+highway driving, so there's definitley something wrong. i read on other threads it might be a boost leake, spark plugs, vanos solenoids etc etc but am really confused. maybe the assholes at the dealership didnt program it proprely after the repair? any help would be highly appreciated! Another sensor is located right at the chargepipe itself. You could check that as well. If you say your RPM is actually moving, I would say there is a high chance that it could be related to false numbers being provided by the sensors. Here is a link where you can see the whole process of how to replace the chargepipe. It's really easy, and you can just try going through each of the steps and double check them. https://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1026194 I'm running MHD Stage 2+, and my fuel consumptions are: City: 13-15l/100km (18-15.6 MPG) Highway: 8-10l/100km (29.4-23.5 MPG) |

[QUOTE=Pupsaiden;24464629]Since they replaced you a chargepipe, I can just assume what could have went wrong (as I did change my chargepipe few days ago). In order to remove chargepipe correctly for N55, you have to remove intake, which has sensor installed. My first guess is that they may have damaged it or at least put it back incorrectly. That would make ECU see the wrong amount of air coming and it could end up trying compensating that with more fuel.

That makes sense, would get them to check that once i bring the car back to the dealer. Do you think the idle issues i mentioned can also be related to the faulty read of the sensors? |

I think it could be related. Usually, when sensors are off, you're not only seeing a difference in the MPG but also, the car doesn't really pull as it should anymore. I would test that first if I were you. |

Your fuel consumption looks normal.. I average 16mpg on stage 1+. And did you put the tune right after buying the car? Your going to break more chargepipes and do more damage if you are running stage 2+ without the supportive mods (intercooler, downpipes, chargepipe). |
