08 M3 vs 08 335i JB3

Finally got a nice/fun M3 driver to run against the 335i about 4 different times. Raced from a 30mph roll,a 45mph roll, and a couple runs from a stop. He said he would eventually win one of the runs, but they all turned out about the same. Only raced up to about 70 in this video. The N54 torque is just awesome. How about that, a car you can drag race on one day, and canyon race on another. And you cruise in luxury when you are going home while getting 28mpg :=)

Makes you wonder why anyone would spend $65k or so on an M3?

if i had the money to do so i would just for the sound alone! but thats just me. once a supercharger or turbo kit comes out it will be a complete monster. till then, you just have to be ok with losing to a tuned 335i in a straight line haha.

Your right - The M3 is a great car too - I guess I was just looking at my stock and mutual fund portfolio a little too much lately!

My friend has an 08 m3.... he has a c.a.i and exhaust. I have a jb3, afe, and dp's. I get him pretty good from a roll or dig. However the car is a different experience to drive and if they were under 50k id def. have one even though they are slower than a tuned 335i.

If you are talking about just straight line driving you have a point. On the other hand the M3 is a friggin beast on the track. It would take a butt load of $$ to make the 335i competitive on the track with the M3.

Make that roughly $10-12k: LSD, tune, tires/wheels and coilovers.

How would I know? I've been on track with three E9x M3. All expert/instructor driven. All with the same result.

not worth doing all that in a 335i, i'd take the m3 over it anyday

I would add to your list upgraded oil cooler and upgraded brakes depending on the track and how long you plan to run.

Nice. Good to see the potential of the 335i. Any other mods in addition to the JB3?
