Question Are they changing the engines on the e90?!?

With all this talk of the new engines lines (328 and 335) on the e92, does anyone know if they are changing the engine on the e90 to match?

If so what model year are they going to do this for?

My e90 is on order and if they switch the engines for 2007 my first year deprecition is going to be astronmical...

There are rumours for changing and for not changing, both from within BMW NA.

So we will have to wait and see.

quite likely, as this engine is born to be a G35/IS350 killer, it just doesn't make sense not to offer it on the sedan. At least for me, my next car will be a 335 sedan. If they don't offer it, I have to go to the dark side and take the G35.

I honestly think I would rather have the G35 sedan. Even though it wont handle better, I bet the features will be better as will the size of the sedan.

I'm not concerned about depreciation as I plan to keep my car for the long term. Also, since this is the 1st BMW with turbos, I would be very concerned with their reliability.

BMW has a large experience of turbo (-diesel) cars.

And at 300HP, this engine should not be stressed. It is all about heat and lube mgmt.

I've heard over the long term, turbos cost more to maintain. Is this true?

Thumbs down

Volvo/SAAB have been very reliable for 2 decades.

My Audi was troublesome after 100000km (60000miles). Not the turbo itself, but all supporting systems. Rotten pipe for lub system, broken flange for heat exchanger and so on... At least three occasions that could have ruined the engine.

Franckly, I don't see the point of the turbo. They should have made it 3.5L and be done with it.

I would likely do the same. they need a 335 sedan for the start of the 2007 model year....

I agree 100%. I guess BMW is trying to exploit engine efficiency to get more hp without incurring the loss of mpg. But, I think like you, I would have loved a 3.5L and then have the V-8 for the M3.

I think this is going to be the most asked question till it happens or doesn't happen.
