NCC DIY #1 2009 - Convenience Car Care, Manassas, VA
Calendar: USA - Mid-Atlantic

Just a heads up to anyone interested in going to the first NCC DIY of 2009. Registration opens this Saturday, Dec 27th and will probably close very quickly (like by Sunday). Almost all DIYs are full, so the only way to get in is to register early.

The actual date of the DIY at Convenience Car Care in Manassas, VA, is Sat, Jan 17th. I'll change the date of this event once DIY registration is closed.

Here's your opportunity to get your car on a lift and do some maintenence and/or mod work; as long as the work can be completed in 4 hr timeframe. We'll also have a dedicated lift primarily for fluid changes, so anyone wanting to do a quick oil change, this is your chance (why do it in a cold-ass garage on ramps?).

I've taken care of many mods at the DIYs (fluid changes, suspension installs, brake work, muffler swaps, etc). The best part is that you'll be surrounded by other gearheads who love working on their cars and can lend a hand whenever help is needed. There are even technicians from Convenience Car Care who will also help out and give tremendous advice on how to tackle any job.

We also have lunch catered in The past few months there we've had Don Pablo and Red, Hot, & Blue BBQ.

for those who have never been to Convenience Car Care, its an outstanding facility. Their staff is top notch and they cater towards the average joe up to the racing crowd. They've saved me a lot of $$ by showing me things I can easily do myself

i'm thinknig bout getting my oil change done. what do you guys think? or should i just wait till my service at 15k at the dealership (that should be the next one i'm assuming?)

oil change was done at 6k, and it now has llil less than 11k, any thoughts?

i used to always do oil change around 3k miles in past cars.. or 5-6k when i used synthetic, but i'm confused with the BMWs. dealership said no need until the car tells you need it but i still dont feel confortable enough with the car running on sale oil for over 10k miles.

oh and what kidna oil u guys use for ur own oil change? do you get it from BMW or aftermarket synthetic.

i would DIY now (and not reset the indicator) and then let the dealer change the oil again when its time to bring it in for service. i get the oil change kit from Tischer, but dont remember what type of oil. its whatever the manual recommends

its $15 to signup. coilovers could be a 4 hr job if you had 2 people who know what they're doing. not sure about the CV, best thing to do there is to call over there and talk to them. also familiarize and bring a copy of someone's DIY

Paul,
What are you doing with your brakes?
Please remember to pump your brakes after you work on your brakes before driving. After changin pads, etc, you won't have any brake pressure built up to use your brakes properly. Very important!

yep, i've watched a few brake jobs before and will take the car out for a test drive afterwards. i've learned quite a bit the past few years at DIYs, so i'm becoming a lot more confident that i can actually do a few things
