2nd ticket in 330i
In 8 months of having the 330i, I got my second speeding ticket I was driving 46 in a 30 zone. It's my own fault because I was talking to my wife and just going with the flow of traffic (2 cars right in front, 2 cars right in back). The cop looked like he was 18 yrs old and was kind of a prick about it. He also got me for an expired DL. I asked him why he pulled me over and not the 2 cars directly in front of me or the 2 cars directly behind me and he told me "because you're the one I targeted."
Since then my wife is driving the car more and I'm driving like my Grandma. |

Sorry to hear about that.
Look on the bright side. It could be worse. Check out this guys speeding adventure from yesterday. He got arrested, car impounded and could get mandatory 30- to 90-day license suspension and a fine of $1,103. Good luck... A slow morning suddenly speeds up Traffic - An Aloha man who says he was late for a meeting is arrested after clocking 146 mph in a BMW 540i Thursday. Really? Can you explain to me why? I was going to buy a valentine until I spoke to a San Diego police officer and he said these days it is useless since they have instant-on radars so you never even know they are there till its too late. He said he stops people with radar detectors all the time. He saved me 400 cause I was about to buy a valentine. I'd love some real factual accounts of how a radar detector can save you from that (atleast in california). Thanks! |

My radar has saved me so many times i cant even tell you
However I have seen cops go by and as i passed the radar went nuts However, if a cop was sitting there, he would be using his radar, so you would get some warning of what is going on ahead |

I don't own one but I've spent a decent amount of time riding shotgun with a friend who's got one and it's amazing the amount of leadtime it often gives you
all it takes is the officer being too lazy to turn his gun on/off and you'll get plenty of warning. Seems like the vast majority are too lazy to turn their guns on and off..... it does help, but what helps better is blending in with the flow of traffic and not speeding much more than anybody else |

the problem is with the new technology police are using. A lot of police agencies use RADAR. Which sends out the wavelengths and it bounces of a lotta stuff therefore your radar detectors are catching the waves before he can clock your speed. You hafta pass him for his radar to register a number. There is a new technology, very costly to agencies, called LIDAR (laser something or other). You may have seen police officers on the side of the road looking through binocular type things. Basically they look through those aim it to a point on the car like the headlights or license plate, push a button and WHABAM! they know how fast your going. In other words, you have no time to slow down, and they know how fast your going 1000 ft. before you even reach them. NYS Troopers are investing in this along with a lot of agencies in the northeast. I believe with LIDAR you have no chance, a couple years ago i got pulled over by LIDAR doin 83 in a 65 and my cobra detector (pretty expensive worked really well) warned me of the laser so i slammed on the brakes but when i passed the cop he already had his lights on and his arm out the windown signaling me to pull over.

i read about the blinder and it seems like it would work but......
its a laser jammer, illegal in most states.....radar detectors are not illegal.....the website says that once u hear the blinder signal go off to slow down to the speed limit then turn off the blinder. which is saying that the police tried to get your speed already but nothing registered. so obviously they will try again and by that time ur goin the speed limit and your laser jammer is off. it sounds like it works but its really gonnna piss off cops if they realize what you've done, then your guranteed to get a ticket.......im not sure if they can tell their laser was jammed therefore they may not havea reason to suspect youve done anything wrong, but if they know of the technology and the fact their laser was jammed they're gonna be heated, so for now i think ill pass on this |

I used to use my Escort all the time until I started realizing it wasn't going off half the time I passed cops. Not to mention the fact that it seemed to always be beeping with X band crap. I'm not sure if a radar detector would have helped or not, but I may look into getting a new one because I can't keep getting tickets like this. Before this car, I had gone 6.5 yrs without one.

KC Bimmer - Sorry dude
A Valentine 1 may have saved you from this, as you could've been alerted to the trap early enough to get out of the speed "train" before Johnny Speed pulled the trigger, but what really happened is the unfortunate "cool car profiling" that is done by cops most of the time. Given a busy road, a radar/lidar wielding cop will target the "cool/fast/nicer" (take your pick) looking car and if your over - you get the payin' paper. I will say that a V1 WILL protect you from instant-on attacks depending on the situation because of it's massive range - cars that are being targeted ahead of you (miles, given the right terrean) will trigger low strength "bogies" on the V1 that come on suddenly and then dissappear - time to move to the right and throw out the anchor I will also say that a V1 CAN also protect you from Ladar attacks as well - again depending on the situation. The Laser light from a Lidar gun is hard as hell to control from 1000ft (that's why you see them outside the car looking through a scope to target you), when they pull the trigger, the light is hitting various metal parts on the cars ahead or beside you which get scattered and will cause the V1 to pick them up. Now - if you drive like an idiot and just plow down the left lane, you ARE going to get nailed V1 or not. |
