Overheating issues?

I was just watching a vid of the 1 series and I noticed the front bumper which seems to be larger and more aggressive than the 335i's. Im mentioning this cuz that would allow better air flow over the engine to help better cool it and I know everyone would appreciate that. We wont know til its out but it may and hopefully will help.

i would rather they use the old m3 engine in the 1 series.
it is a proven performer. AND DOES NOT OVERHEAT!

Well it's proven NOW yes. Are you forgetting the issues that the S54 suffered upon its introduction?

There are no N54s popping yet. S54s popped with startling regularity when they were new.

If my spirited run in a 335xi coupe yesterday was anything to go by, those overheating issues with the 3.0L TT should be a thing of the past.

Full redline upshifts with plenty of triple digit speeds in a fairly new dealer demo car.
What really surprised me was the poise of the car over 120mph and the lack of noise at that speed.
The XI also showed how composed it was in fast sweepers, some tire squeal but no real understeer, it just tucked itself in hitting the apex and good exit speeds.

Anyway back on the overheating topic, after 30mins of this hard driving parked back at the dealer lot and let the fans kick in the temp was definitely in check. This was on a 70 degree F day.

Yup... rod bearings ftl. After they realized the flaw, the fix worked. Have been since '02 ish.

There was never an overheating issue, it was a manufacturing/supply issue..!!

He was refering to the old M3 motor not the new biturbo.

I prefer the n54 to the s54, better fuel economy with not much less performance, 16 and 24 is just bad.

NO, the other way around! 335's that didn't get an oil-cooler experienced higher temps, which BMW knew would happen because they designed the engine to run hotter. Several under extreme flogging experienced "limp mode" to protect the engine from overheating.

BMW's fault was not installing oil coolers in ALL twin turbocharged n54 engines. Due to economical gains and supplier issues.

Nobody knows, including the dealers that I've asked. Pretty unfortunate, if they don't. I know I'll be "limp moding" around before long, if not.

Hellcat might be correct, but the Sports Package that we get is a US only package. Unless hellcat has access to some pretty technical confidential internal product planning documentation from BMW, I don't see how he/she could know for sure regarding the US 135i.

I think the only way we're going to find out if an oil cooler is on the 135i is when cars start getting delivered here, and we compare them.

Why is it so difficult to produce a definitive answer from either a dealer or BMW? Has anyone actually approached BMW with the question?

I asked, and my CA said he couldn't find out. I assume it's for liability reasons, like with the 335i not having it on all cars, and BMW having to retrofit it on some of those. Why would they make a blanket statement that they may be held liable for, or make them look bad...

I hope mine has the cooler, but I think it may not (even though I have the 6sp and ZSP - seemingly the unspoken magic requirement for one on the 335i). If it doesn't, given the issues with some 335is, then I know that BMW either found another way to keep the engine from overheating or they cheaped out. If my car overheats and/or goes into limp mode, BMW is going to have to remedy that situation so that it no longer occurs.
